2025 Primary School State Debating Championship

Congratulations to Jennifer Fan (6L) who represented Hurstville Public School as the 3rd speaker of the Sydney Region Debating team. They competed over the week at a 3-day camp tournament at Stanwell Tops for the 2025 Primary School State Debating Championships. The Sydney team placed 4th but unfortunately did not make the semi-finals as there was a team tied in 3rd place. Nevertheless, we are so proud of her efforts in competing at the NSW State Championships. Well done Jennifer, this is a significant achievement!

ASX Primary School Sharemarket Game

6S and 6L have been partaking in the ASX School Sharemarket Game this year. Students were given a virtual $50,000 to invest in real ASX-listed companies, learning how stock prices fluctuate based on market trends and company performance. They demonstrated strong teamwork, strategic thinking, and an interest in real-world financial learning. Well done to James Y and Jordan L from 6L who worked together and reached a Ranking of #74 in NSW.

Stage 3 Gifted and Talented Mathematics Competition 2025

On Monday 3rd November, 4 groups of students from Year 5 OC and Year 6 OC classes participated in the Stage 3 Gifted and Talented Mathematics Competition Day 2025 held at Sydney Technical High School. We each enjoyed a fun time together exploring mathematics as a team.

Throughout the day, we had a series of 3 competitions that required strategy, team work and even endurance. One of the sessions was the Swiss Competition, where teams from different schools came together to battle each other individually. We were presented a pattern with missing numbers and took turns to answer the unfilled numbers and find the correlation between them.

At the end of the day, Sydney Technical High School concluded the day with an Awards Ceremony. Hurstville Public School dominated the leaderboard. 1st place 6S, 2nd place 5D, 3rd place 6L, and 4th place 5S. Thank you to Sydney Technical High School for inviting us to take part in the Stage 3 Gifted and Talented Mathematics Competition Day 2025. We hope that our school can compete again next year.

2025 Premier's Debating Challenge - update

The 2025 Premier's Debating Challenge for Years 5 and 6 began with around 1,100 teams from across New South Wales. Of these teams just 245 made it through to the finals.

Our Hurstville Public Blue team debated against Lilli Pilli Public School on Thursday 23rd October to decide the Sydney region champion team. The topic for the debate was, ‘That primary schools should teach self-defence classes’. Both teams had fantastic arguments and were able to rebut their opponents well. The panel of three adjudicators had a long discussion to decide the winning team and eventually gave the debate to Lilli Pilli Public School, making them the regional winners.

We congratulate Elise, Alicia, Winni, Maxine and Ellin on such a fantastic achievement. They finished in the top 20 out of 1,100 teams. What an amazing effort!
