A message from Mr Steed

Congratulations to our Year 6 Students on an amazing Gala Day

After a few unexpected weather delays, on Wednesday 5 Nov our incredible Year 6 students demonstrated their skills and organisational prowess with the running of the 2025 Gala Day.

After a great deal of anticipation, our students were very keen to explore and enjoy the many different stall and activities that our Year 6 students had designed, organised and were operating on the day.

It was so lovely to see and hear the way our students in Year 6 cared for and explained the nature of each activity to our younger students. I would like to congratulate all of our Year 6 students on a very well run and well organised Gala Day. I would also like to acknowledge the great leadership and clear sense of responsibility our Year 6 students demonstrated throughout the day. The Year 6 cohort have raised a very significant amount of money that they will put towards a Year 6 2025 legacy gift to the school.

We would like to acknowledge the contribution our amazing school counsellors and school psychologists - Ms Lee, Ms Taoube and Mr Dahl have madeand thank them for their care, their insights and their collaboration with everyone at Hurstville PS.

We would also like to acknowledge the impact that the senior psychologists, in particular Ms Claire Drake, and leaders psychology practice also make to the lives of students, families and teachers at Hurstville PS every day.

2026 Class Placements and Structure - Term 4 Reminder

Each year during Term 4, our school leadership and grade teams dedicate significant time to planning the class structure, staffing, and student placements for the upcoming school year. We have now started the process for 2026.

When organising classes, many factors are taken into account to ensure the best possible outcomes for every child. Alongside the NSW Department of Education’s guidelines regarding class sizes at different year levels, we also consider:

  • Academic achievement levels
  • Special needs (High Potential and Gifted, Learning and Support, special assistance)
  • EAL/D status (length of time learning English)
  • Medical concerns
  • Relationships that should be maintained or separated (teacher–student, student–student)
  • Behavioural issues or concerns
  • Relevant family circumstances
  • Students receiving additional funding support
  • Current referrals to the Learning Support Team
  • Teacher allocation

If you have specific concerns about your child’s placement relating to any of these factors, please contact one of our Deputy Principals, Ms Russell, Mrs Saad or Mr Renshaw, by phone or email as soon as possible. Waiting until the start of the new school year to raise these matters is too late.

We are committed to doing our very best for every student and appreciate your support with this process.

By the end of this term, a proposed class structure will be finalised. However, as always, we will review and adjust the overall class structure in the early weeks of the new school year, once all 2026 enrolment information is confirmed.
