White card success!  

A huge congratulations to our 20 incredible Year 9 and 10 students who successfully completed their White Card qualification in week 9. Each student demonstrated exceptional focus, effort, and professionalism throughout the course — a fantastic achievement that opens doors to future opportunities in construction and trades.

Tafe EPP SYF programs  

Students engaged in several TAFE SYF (Start your Future) programs, where they developed industry-relevant skills through practical learning experiences in specialised vocational areas.  

  

First Aid and Resuscitation Training   

A group of our students recently participated in a First Aid and Resuscitation course delivered by Royal Life Saving. 

Through this training, students successfully gained their First Aid qualification, equipping them with valuable, practical skills that can be used throughout their lives.  

This opportunity not only strengthens their confidence in responding to emergencies but also enhances their employability by adding an important credential to their skill set. Well, done to all students who completed the course!  

  

ADF RAAF experience day  

Four students from Kurri Kurri High School took part in an exciting work experience day at RAAF Base Williamtown, thanks to the Educational Pathways Program. Hosted by 26 Squadron, the day offered hands-on activities and insights into a wide range of Air Force careers, including air traffic control, engineering, fire services, and more.  

The experience gave students a unique look at life on one of Australia’s largest Air Force bases and the many career opportunities available in Defence.  

  

EPP Thiess Mining HER Future 

Seven students from Years 10, 11 and 12 who have a genuine interest in the mining industry recently attended the Mining HER Future – Thiess Girls in Mining Forum at the Singleton Civic Centre. 

The day provided a fantastic opportunity for students to hear directly from women currently working in the mining industry and learn about the wide range of career pathways available. Students explored careers across areas such as engineering, safety, environmental management, finance and site operations, gaining valuable insight into the many roles that support the industry. 

Throughout the forum, students also learned about real pathways into mining, including apprenticeships, traineeships, university study and industry training programs. The experience helped students gain a better understanding of the opportunities available and what a future career in mining could look like. 

  

Year 12 University roadshow 

Senior students recently attended the University Showcase Roadshow, proudly organised by the University of Newcastle. The event provided students with valuable insight into key university topics, including how to apply, course costs, accommodation options, and student life. 

Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and speak directly with university representatives during the mini expo held at the conclusion of the presentation, helping them gain a clearer understanding of future study pathways. 

The participating universities at this year’s University Showcase included: 

• Charles Sturt University • Southern Cross University • University of New England • University of Newcastle 

The showcase was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore their options and start thinking about possible post-school pathways into university study. 

  

Year 9 Uni Steps – Industry Careers Connect Workshop 

Year 9 students recently participated in the Uni Steps: Industry Careers Connect Workshop, a practical and inspiring session designed to help students prepare for their first casual job. 

During the workshop, students heard directly from the hiring manager at Kurri McDonalds, who shared valuable insights into what makes a great employee, what employers look for in job applications, and how students can perform well in an interview. 

Students also explored important job-readiness skills such as writing a resume, presenting themselves professionally, and making a strong first impression. The session provided real-world tips and advice to help students better understand employer expectations when applying for casual work. 

By the end of the workshop, students walked away with increased confidence, knowledge and practical skills to support them when seeking their first job and beginning their journey into the world of work. 

  

EPP SBAT Awareness Day on Nursing at Newcastle Uni 

Year 10 students recently had the opportunity to learn about an exciting pathway into the health industry through a School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) in Health Services Assistance. 

During the session, students interested in nursing and health careers gained valuable insight into how this pathway allows them to combine school, training and real workplace experience. Students learned that through this program they can work one day per week in a real health setting, while completing the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance through TAFE. 

The presentation also highlighted the many benefits of the program, including the opportunity to earn while learning, develop practical industry skills, and gain a clear pathway into future nursing opportunities, including Diploma and university study options. 

This session helped students better understand the steps involved in entering the health sector and the exciting opportunities available through SBAT pathways. 

  

EPP CSU yr 7 & 8 Career Hunt Workshops 

Students in Years 7 and 8 recently took part in the CSU (Charles Sturt University) Career Hunt Workshop, a fun and interactive session designed to introduce students to the wide range of careers available. 

During the workshop, students participated in a QR-code-based scavenger hunt, where they moved around the space scanning codes and discovered different career options. The activity encouraged students to think about future possibilities while engaging in an active and hands-on learning experience. 

The session was a fantastic way to spark curiosity about careers early, helping students begin to explore the many pathways and opportunities that could be part of their future. 

 

Year 8 Uni Steps – Robotics and Information Technology Session 

Year 8 students recently participated in an exciting Uni Steps Robotics and Information Technology session, where they explored the many ways; technology is used in the real world. During the interactive workshop, students learned about emerging areas such as robotics, cyber security, gaming, virtual reality, and information technology careers. They had the opportunity to try virtual reality (VR), take part in cyber security activities, and gain insight into how technology continues to shape the future workforce. One of the highlights of the session was meeting Steve the robot dog, which gave students a fun and engaging look at how robotics is being used in modern industries. The session encouraged students to think about the wide range of technology careers and future pathways available in this rapidly growing industry.

Year 10 students recently attended an exciting experience day at the University of Newcastle’s NuSpace campus in Newcastle City. 

Throughout the day, students rotated through four hands-on workshops delivered by university staff and students in the areas of criminology, psychology, mathematics, and law. Each session provided students with an opportunity to explore these disciplines while gaining a deeper understanding of what studying these fields at university could involve. 

The experience gave students valuable insight into university life, course pathways and potential future careers, helping them begin thinking about the possibilities available to them after school.
