STAGE 6

Stage 6 English
Stage 6 English classes are now working within the new NSW curriculum. Across the courses, students are engaging with the module Reading to Write, which focuses on developing students’ ability to analyse how writers craft meaning and then apply these techniques in their own writing. Through close reading and thoughtful discussion of texts, students are building the skills needed to respond critically and creatively, preparing them for the demands of senior English study.
Year 11 Hospitality
Year 11 Hospitality students have been actively developing their understanding of food hygiene and safe work practices as part of their current unit of competency. Throughout the term, students have engaged in a range of practical experiences focused on the Prepare and Serve Sandwiches unit, allowing them to apply their knowledge in real service environments. They have completed several service periods in which they planned, prepared, and served a variety of sandwiches to customers, demonstrating growing confidence in hygiene procedures, safe work habits, teamwork, and customer service. These hands‑on sessions have provided valuable insight into industry expectations and the importance of maintaining high standards in all aspects of food preparation. Early next term, students will participate in work placement, where they will have the opportunity to further extend their skills and experience authentic industry conditions, supporting their development as emerging hospitality professionals.
NSW Parliament House visit
Students from Year 10 Commerce and Year 11 & 12 Legal Studies visited the NSW Parliament House in Sydney as guests of Clayton Barr MP, who they met with before getting into the workings of state government.
Being there and seeing parliament first hand gave a clear lesson in the bicameral system of parliament and the division and seperate of powers. Students were fortunate to witness question time where important issues such as fuel shortages and firearm and sentencing reforms were discussed. The students left parliament with a greater understanding of how laws are created and administered in NSW and the importance of representation in Australian democracy.
Forces & motion or cellular processes are challenging the scientific minds of Stage 6
In Biology, Year 11 students have been modelling the important cellular processes of diffusion and osmosis, using practical demonstrations to visualise how particles and water move across membranes, as well as how volume and surface area play an important part in these processes.
While in Physics, students have been investigating forces and motion through the design and racing of CO₂ dragsters. Working in teams, students explored how factors such as friction, mass and aerodynamics influence speed, while enjoying some friendly competition to see whose design travelled the fastest.
