The buzz around the school has reached a whole new level, with students in the Bee Humble program hard at work jarring their very own liquid gold. From hive to jar, students have been learning hands-on skills while carefully preparing their honey for sale to the school community. The excitement has been contagious, with staff and families rushing to secure a jar—and it’s safe to say the response has been nothing short of sweet! Shelves have been cleared almost as quickly as they’ve been stocked, proving that this student-led initiative is already a hive of success.

And if the incredible sales weren’t enough, Bee Humble honey has officially taken the crown, winning Best Honey Overall at both the Maitland and Newcastle Shows—an achievement that has students positively buzzing with pride. This outstanding result highlights not only the quality of the honey, but also the dedication, teamwork, and care poured into every jar. With such a strong start, thanks to the added support of the Cessnock Council Schools Environment Grant, the future of Bee Humble is looking bright—and tasting delicious.

NCIS NEWSLETTER

The Navigate, Connect, Ignite, Succeed (NCIS) Program ran during Term 1 on Tuesdays and Fridays for Year 8 and Year 9 students. The program focuses on supporting students to improve attendance, literacy, numeracy, and positive behaviour while also developing practical life skills.

During Term 1 literacy sessions, students worked on setting academic, behavioural, and social goals to support their personal growth and engagement in learning. A key focus was developing skills in responding to short answer questions, which helped students practise real-life tasks such as understanding job advertisements and completing forms. This was also a key targeted area to help support our Year 9 students who are currently sitting their NAPLAN exams.

In numeracy, students focused on algebra, specifically linear equations, to strengthen their understanding and support their learning in core mathematics classes.

Each week, students also participated in cooking and cleaning activities designed to build important life skills. Students prepared meals such as power bowls and spaghetti bolognese, while learning about hygiene, teamwork, and food safety

Students were also fortunate to access the facilities at the PCYC, where they participated in movement breaks using areas such as the skate park, gymnastics space, and gym. These activities supported student wellbeing and provided opportunities for physical activity.
