Dear Families
We have come to the end of our fantastic Term 2. It has been filled with learning, growth and lots of fun along the way. We are proud of all the effort and enthusiasm students have shown in their learning throughout the term. We would like to celebrate all the wonderful achievements of our Grade 1 and Grade 2 students.
Last week at our cohort assembly we announced the student leaders for the 1/2 space. The students were chosen as they best reflect our school values of kindness, respect and learning together. They show many positive character strengths like courage, empathy, teamwork, perspective, curiosity, and problem solving. In combination with these values and strengths they also present themselves as leaders. They set an example in learning spaces and the playground for how to be successful as a learner and member of our school community. We look forward to seeing them in their newly appointed role as a student leader.

Students participated in the Reptiles incursion with enthusiasm. They had the opportunity to see and interact with variety of native Australian reptiles including snakes, lizards, a turtle and a crocodile. The students were engaged in talks with the presenter about various species, their physical characteristics, behaviour, habitat and conservation. They were allowed to touch and hold the reptiles (under supervision) to create a deeper connection with the animals. The purpose of the reptiles incursion was for the students to have a basic knowledge and understanding about the animals, their external features and habitats. Students will use this knowledge in Term 3, as they will explore and learn about animals and their external features and about living things (including plants) and their basic needs as a part of their inquiry learning.

Students have been building their reading and writing skills through shared and guided reading, systematic synthetic phonics and genre writing. We have loved seeing their imaginations shine in narrative writing and their curiosity when exploring non-fiction texts.
In maths, we have focussed on place value, addition and subtraction during this term. Students have learnt and explored various strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. They used hands-on material, maths games and real life examples to develop strong number sense and problem-solving skills.
In SEL, Students have worked on positive coping and problem solving skills. Students have learnt to describe the cooperative behaviour and identify how the cooperative behaviour can help with solving problems. Students have explored the difference between calming and coping strategies. They have learnt to identify times when they need to use calming and coping strategies. Students have also learnt and explored different ways of being respectful towards their peers, teachers, their learning environment and also while using online technology.
In Inquiry, students have completed their inquiry to learn about the past and present life by comparing different objects, games, means of transport, communication and technology of present with the past. During their inquiry learning, students had the opportunities to explore and play some games which were popular in the past such as hopscotch, marbles, Knuckles etc. Students have also enjoyed reading books and watching videos based on the theme of past and present, that helped them gathered the information to summarise their learning.
