From the Classroom

Year 3/4 News

On the 19/06 we had four people from Manningham Council come to us for an incursion. All the grade threes and fours participated in four activities: one where we planted some plants in our sensory garden, one where we learned about what things go in what bins, one we learned about some worms and one where we learnt about indigenous artefacts and bush tucker. We all had so much fun learning about sustainability. Alex V

On Thursday the 19th of June the Year 3 and 4s were treated to a day where we learnt about sustainability.

Biodiversity and Indigenous Plants

We went on a walk around the school and played lots of fun filled games. We learnt about how the houses being built effect animals and we also learnt that an adaptation of koalas was that a baby koala has to eat it mum’s poo because it is filled with nutrition for the baby.

The Wonderful World of Waste

Some chosen people sorted all the rubbish out in the different bins. We learnt lots of stuff about waste and how it’s hurting our environment. We also learnt that it takes AGES for a plastic bottle to dissolve or decompose - 300 YEARS!

From Scraps to Soil: The Magic of Composting

We learnt about worm farms we even made one ourselves. We talked about what worms eat, how they live and that they have 5 hearts! Some people chose to hold worms!

Bushfoods and Cultural Artefacts

We learnt about lots of cool and fun cultural things. We even tried to make fire! We learnt lots of facts about Aboriginal people and fun

games. One game was a ball activity where the Wurundjeri people would put rocks or grass in a possum skin that they moulded to look like a ball.
