Year 10 Work Experience

In the last week of Term 2, our Year 10 students gained hands-on experience through placements across a range of diverse career pathways. A big thank you to all the businesses for their invaluable support and mentorship in shaping the future careers of our students.
Student Reflection
During the last week of Term 2, I completed my work experience with the events team at the MCG.
Throughout the week, I attended a number of meetings — including debriefs about previous matches, planning for upcoming events, and a preparation meeting for the British and Irish Lions game happening this weekend.
Outside of meetings, I helped with part of the Yarra Park restoration project. This involved walking through the park to document damaged signage and areas needing repair. I also learned about the parking procedures in the park, such as the rule that cars must park at least 80 metres from the stadium and face away from it, as a safety measure to prevent potential threats.
Another highlight of my experience was being involved in the SecondBite program, where leftover food from stadium events is donated to the local Salvation Army to help those in need.
My time at the MCG gave me a behind-the-scenes look at how major events are organised and run, and I learned a lot about teamwork, planning, and community responsibility. I would definitely recommend this placement to anyone interested if the opportunity comes up.
