Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

Trivia Night

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our incredible Community Connect Team for the outstanding success of our recent Trivia Night fundraiser. Your hard work, creativity, and dedication truly shone through, resulting in a fantastic evening filled with fun, laughter, and friendly competition. The meticulous planning and seamless execution were evident in every detail. Your efforts not only brought our community closer together but also raised significant funds that will directly benefit our students. Thank you for your unwavering commitment and for making this event such a triumph!

Attitudes to School Survey

Next week we will conduct the Attitudes to School Survey for our years 4-6 students. This is an important survey that ensures we embrace student voice and feedback in our ongoing efforts to grow our school and create the best possible environment for students to learn. A reminder if you would prefer your child not to participate an email sent to derinya.ps@education.vic.gov.au is appreciated.

House Names

We have been working with our student leadership and Student voice Team (SVT) to reimagine our house names. In consultation with the students, we have identified our local native birdlife as a significant symbol of our environment. Therefore we are in the process of selecting four birds to represent each house. In consultation with the Boonwurrung Land Council we are exploring indigenous language to use as our house names. We are also hoping to connect our well known school values to each house, name and mascot. The students demonstrated clearly thought out, innovative ideas which have brought us to this point. Following further consultation with the land council we will seek feedback from our staff and parent community.

Prep enrolment for 2025

For any families with siblings commencing school in 2025, now is the time to check in at the office and see Kellie who will provide you with the paperwork. Also if you know families with students currently in 4 year old kinder please prompt them to attend a tour. Tours can be booked on the Derinya Primary School website.

Library Update

Last week some of our new library furniture arrived and we have been madly working to move our books across to their new homes. We have also invested in a new Library Management System named AccessIT. This program will simplify searching and borrowing for the children. There will also be an automated system for overdue reminders which will greatly streamline our processes. Many thanks to Emma and Robyn for their tireless work reimagining this beautiful space made possible by our fundraising efforts.

Region Cross Country

A big congratulations to all of our students that represented Derinya at the Region Cross Country on Wednesday. You made us all very proud! See pictures below.

Community Conduct

As a community we rely on each other to act as a ‘village’ as we raise our children together. This means that there is a trust between us that we will model to our children appropriate social behaviours at all times. This is particularly important as we travel to and from school or attend school based events such as assembly or when volunteering to help out. Your cooperation is appreciated as we continue to support our students to learn, grow and reach their potential as young members of our community who live and breathe our school values daily.

 both!

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend ahead.
