House Athletics Carnival

Bill Sewart Athletics Track - Burwood Hwy,

Burwood East VIC 3151

Monday, 17th June 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The children are very excited and have begun preparations for this year’s Athletics Carnival to be held at Bill Sewart Athletics Track. The day will no doubt be filled with excitement, sportsmanship, and a whole lot of fun! This event is all about participation and provides our students with the opportunity to experience athletics.

In order to run all of the events and not limit participation, we will need many helpers on the day. We are seeking at least 8 parents from Years 3-6 and 12 from F to 2. We require assistance at all field events with measuring and recording, placing in run events, assistance with relays, BBQ, communicating and marshalling students to events.

What to bring:

  • Wear House colours (builds spirit, and easy to identify)
  • Warm clothes, wet weather appropriate
  • Jumper / Jacket / Rain jacket
  • Named bag (school bag or smaller bag)
  • Drink bottle filled with water (soft drink or sports drinks are not permitted)
  • Lunch; sausage sizzle at 12:15pm
  • Additional snacks and food, just in case a sausage doesn't suffice.
  • Towel in case of wet feet / wet weather

Logistics for the day:

All students will travel by bus from school to the venue. Years 3 to 6 will depart at 9:00 am and Foundation to Year 2 at 10:30am. Please complete the linked form to provide permission for EACH child in your family. Also complete if your child can NOT attend.

**Important Note:**

There will be NO BUSES returning to St Cecilia's after the Athletics Sports Day.

We strongly advise you to arrange carpooling if you are unlikely to be able to collect your child. We will require this in writing or indicated on this form. Presentations will occur at 3:00pm, with a 3:15pm dismissal.

All students must be collected from the venue - THERE WILL BE NO BUSSES RETURNING TO SCHOOL.

Events and activities:

For Years 3 to 6 students, the excitement begins as they get to compete in at least two field events from a selection that includes shot put, discus, high jump, long jump, and triple jump. Additionally, they can opt to challenge themselves in the 200m, 800m, or the legendary Mustey Mile at the end of the day. All students will compete in the 100m sprint, a thrilling race that promises to be a highlight of the day as well as Novelty Relay races to promote teamwork and House spirit. All students will also have lunch together at 12:15 pm in their House groups.

Each student has been asked to complete a google form at school to nominate which events they wish to take part in. Please note, the 100m, 2 throwing, 2 jumping, and novelty relays are compulsory. Please note, this is the personal choice of each student and they will have plenty of time to complete this! The results of the House Athletics Day will then assist in the District team selections, with the top 2 in each age category progressing to the next level in Term 3.

Foundation to Year 2 students will participate in novelty relay events to promote teamwork whilst experiencing friendly competition. An experience of field events will whet their appetite for athletics events; vortex, long jump and barless-high jump will be enjoyed on the day. We will need multiple helpers at each event for each year level (total of 12, 4x year level), so please volunteer to help on the day via the above form. Foundation to Year 2 students will all join in the excitement of 100 m sprint races.

Sausage Sizzle:

As a token of their appreciation, the Parents Association will kindly provide a delicious sausage sizzle for our students and their supporting family members during lunchtime from 12:15 pm to 12:45pm.

We look forward to your participation and support in making our House Athletics Day an enjoyable experience for our students.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. If you have any questions about the day, please email me kaldcroft@scgleniris.catholic.edu.au
