What's Been Happening?
Year 1 Whirlybird Fun
Grade 1 students have been writing procedures in class. They have had a wonderful time making and testing their paper whirlybirds recently and then writing the steps involved in making it. The real fun was in the testing of the whirlybirds off the school balcony.
Year 2 Minibeasts
Bec Ceveri came into our Yr 2 classrooms to share all her knowledge with us on Mini Beasts. We found out what a mini beast is, their diets, features and habitats. We got to go out into our garden and hunt for mini beasts. We used spades and magnifying glasses and we had little containers with holes in the top to collect them!We came back into our classroom to discuss what we had found and Bec gave us a whole lot of information on our mini beast collection. We drew our mini beasts taking special notice of their features and we labelled our drawings. We LOVED Bec coming in to teach us. Thank you soooo much Bec!
Here are some of the creatures Bec taught us about:
Molluscs (snails, slugs) - mantle (soft body) that covers internal organs, some have a shell, radula (spikey tongue)
Crustaceans (slater) - jointed limbs, hard exoskeleton, special jaws called mandibles, two pair of antennae
Annelids (worms) - body is segmented and they breathe through their skin
Insects (ant, bee, earwig, ladybird) - 6 legs, 3 body parts and a pair of antennae
Arachnids (spider, ticks) - no antennae, two body parts and 8 legs
Myriapods (millipede, centipede) - segmented body, pair of antennae, breathing holes called spiracles
