National Volunteers Week
At Croydon Hills Primary School we are so thankful for our community of volunteers.
This week, Sian, our School Council President and I celebrated the theme "Something for Everyone" and how it fits in so well with the diverse volunteering opportunities at our school.
I shared with Sian how appreciative we all are of all of the volunteers within our community and the positive impact they have. We celebrated how students benefit from enriched experiences, how staff benefit due to the additional support, and how the community benefits from the positive climate they create.
Sian shared "Thanks to all CHPS staff for encouraging parent/carer volunteers to be involved within the school in so many ways. We really feel welcome and valued; and are encouraged to be active participants in our children's education and their primary school experience. I really appreciate and have enjoyed all the volunteer experiences that I have been involved in during my 10 years as a parent/aunty at CHPS."
Community Engagement: Book Fair and Moths Virtual Golf
Last week our community enjoyed the school's annual Book Fair. The fair is a great opportunity for our school to expose children and families to texts and continue to promote a love of literature and reading. Thank you to our Library teacher Jess Ward, Library technicians Sue Offer and Justine Horkings, and volunteers for ensuring the event was a success. Money raised from the Book Fair will go straight back into the resourcing of library and classroom reading materials.
Thank you also to our MOTHs volunteers for organising last week's Virtual Golf social gathering. Your efforts in supporting our dads and male role models to engage in the life of the school is a valued component of how the school engages with the community.
Families may wish to diarise their next event, the annual Dads* and Kids10-pin bowling, on Friday, August 30.
* Or any other role model.
Notification: OSHC Fee Increase
Last Wednesday evening School Council ratified a fee increase for Out of School Hours Care. The $2 fee increase puts the school's service fees at $19 for Before-School-Care and $27.50 for After-School-Care before the Federal government's Child Care Subsidy rebate. The increase will come into effect from July 1, 2024.
The School Council was comfortable with the price increase after considering:
- the actual effect of the fee increase on families that results in the out-of-pocket difference being around:
- 20c per session for our low-income families
- 60c per session for our middle-income families
- $1 per session for our highest-income families
- the increased cost of living that affects both families and the OSHC service.
- the school's fee remains the lowest of our local schools, whilst offering a longer service - that starts at 6:45 am (compared to 7:00 am) and stays open until 6:30 pm (compared to 6:00 pm).
- The percentage increase and timeline are consistent with the last two fee increases - which occurred on July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2022.
