Courageous Catholics Day

Last Tuesday, 9 June, our school welcomed and embraced the opportunity to work with Gen Bryant and her band.  Joyful songs were practised and enacted with actions, reminding our students of the importance to 'make a stand' and face things which are important in our lives. Gen's music and teaching around the concept of 'Courage' reminded us to deepen our understanding of what it means to have courage everywhere whether it be in our classrooms, playgrounds, at home or in our community. Being a courageous Catholic in our world can be challenging, but with the help of the Holy Spirit we can do amazing things to help improve inclusion, love, empathy, positivity and decision making. Afterall, we are the disciples of Jesus.

Courageous Catholics Day Reflection - by Stephanie W.

Everyone gathered in the Coghlan Centre for the final part of Courageous Catholics Day. When I stepped inside I could sense the excitement and energy in the room. Gen and her team stood at the front of the room singing a bit and dancing a bit to the music being played. Once everyone was seated on the ground, Mrs Gridley got up in front of everyone and began to dance to the music. Laughter, cheer and shock filled the room as Mrs Gridley showed off her amazing dance moves. I felt joyful and was extremely impressed by Mrs. Gridley’s dancing and I thought that it took a lot of courage to do so. She said she had been practising, but I didn’t think I’d be able to dance like that even after months of practice. Mrs. Gridley was on time with the music and made the room light up.

Courageous Catholics Day Snapshot - by Scarlett

As I heard Gen's voice across the room with the microphone to tell us to stand up, I was so excited because I knew that this is my element. She started playing a song and then we all started singing along and dancing. At that very moment I realized why I love to be on this earth and stay here. That is my motivation in life and I was breathing so hard because I was so out of breath but I did not care at all. I was seeing and watching all the lights shine onto the Band while Monty was playing his electric guitar. Gen is so courageous as she used to be very shy and did not interact with the crowd as much but now she does that heaps.

Feast of the Sacred Heart

Many thanks to all of our families who contributed to the St. Vincent's winter appeal. There were so many food items and blankets donated to this very important initiative and our social justice leaders were pleased to feel that we are making a difference to our community.
