Principal's Report

Term 2 Assembly - 3pm Fridays

We look forward to seeing parents at our weekly celebration of our capable and compassionate students.

See you on he (new) Green!

Curriculum Day - Thursday 24th April

Last Thursday school staff spent the day collaborating and learning and developing best-practice teaching!

Types of Authority

We started the day learning about different types of authority and consequences, empowering staff to feel in control of learning without feeling authoritarian. We also learned about punitive, natural and logical consequences, and why punishments don't work - because they don't make sense! At Box Hill North PS, you will hear us talking about Logical Consequences. Consequences that make sense and help students learn.

Explicit Teaching

We then spent time learning about Explicit Teaching as part of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0. We talked about what 'Explicit Teaching' really means, where our Instructional Model for teaching already includes these practices, and how we can develop our teaching further.

Podcasts and Popcorn

After a well-earned lunch, staff then took themselves out into the sunshine and listened to some varied podcasts (whilst eating popcorn!) about best-practice teaching of Reading. If you happened to walk or drive by the school at this time, it may have appeared that some teachers looked a little lost or lonely, but rest-assured they were engrossed in their podcasts!

Over all it was such a wonderfully productive day. Thank you to everyone for their contributions!

Open Night and School Tours!

Education Week - May 12th - 16th - is coming up next week, and we cannot wait to welcome current and prospective families into our school, to share our passion for teaching and learning with you!

We will be holding Open Night on Wednesday 14th May, and hope you can all attend!

  • From 5pm-5.30pm we will share INFORMATION with families at each of our Year Levels (Kinder, Foundation, 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6)
  • From 5.30pm-6.30pm, we will open up our classrooms to share Reading, Maths and Inquiry learning experiences with our families.
  • School Tours will also be available for prospective families from 5.30pm-6.30pm. Tell your friends to book by contacting the office!

We look forward to welcoming many families into our school!

This term, I will be completing many School Tours - some with the help of our student leaders - so please let your friends and family know to book a tour if they live in the area and are in need of a school for 2025 or 2026! I would love to show them around this wonderful school.

Sully - School Wellbeing Dog

Sully has been having a wonderful time at school this term, supporting student (and sometimes staff) wellbeing. Today he started his day by welcoming students to school at the gate, and walking one of our Preps to class. He then met some of our three-year-old Kinder kids, before spending the afternoon in the Library with some of our 3/4 students.

It's important to note that Sully is paid in treats, and often believes he deserves a bonus payment of teacher lunches. Some teachers are more obliging than others.

I'm so proud of how our community has welcomed Sully into Box Hill North, and how students who may have initially been a little nervous with dogs have learned to pat Sully and trust his gentle personality.
