Mother's Day Breakfast

A Beautiful Morning of Celebration

Last week, we were delighted to host our annual Mother's Day Breakfast, bringing together our wonderful school community to celebrate the incredible mums, grandmothers, and special women in our lives. It was a joyful morning filled with warm conversations, delicious food, and great, professional quality, family photos. Thank you to all who joined us, and a special thanks to our staff and volunteers who helped make the event such a success. We hope everyone had a very happy Mother’s Day!

We are in the 2026 enrolment period.  If you have a child ready to begin Foundation next year—or know of families in our community interested in joining St Monica's —please visit our website to enrol: www.smkangarooflat.catholic.edu.au/enrol

Walk to School Day

Stepping into a Healthy Habit

Today we celebrated Walk to School Day, encouraging students and families to start the day with some fresh air and exercise. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces walking their way to school. Events like this promote healthy habits, road safety awareness, and community spirit. Thank you to everyone who took part, especially the families who walked with our school students and helped make the morning such a success!

Division Cross Country

Good luck to all our students from Grades 3 to 6 who are representing our school at the Division Cross Country today! We are so proud of your dedication, effort, and sportsmanship. Whether you're running for a personal best or just enjoying the experience, we know you'll do your best and represent our school with pride. Go St Monica's!

Congratulations to the top ten finishers in their colours Emery M, Parker M , Mia S, Blake F, Sophie M, Annabel M.

Emery, Annabel, Blake and Parker have made it  through to the next stage.  Well done!

Parking – Station Street

We understand that parking around St Monica’s can be difficult, particularly during drop-off and pick-up times. However, it’s important to keep the designated Disability Parking spaces on Station Street (in front of the school) available for those who genuinely need them. These spaces are used by school staff, families, and St Monica’s Parishioners with valid permits. We kindly ask that only those with the appropriate permits use these spots, to ensure access and support for all members of our community.

With the commencement of Term 2, our service would like to remind the school community to ensure that school parents are adhering to speed limits and safe parking during school drop off and pick up times.

Our school crossing supervisors continue to report concerning driving behaviour and illegal parking being performed by parents and carers around schools during these peak periods. The message our service continues to promote is that ‘road safety is everyone’s responsibility’.  This is particularly important around primary schools. The driving behaviours children witness today will shape their driving habits in the future. Setting the right example is crucial.

Two of the primary schools in the City of Greater Bendigo area have recently had their school crossing upgraded to a wombat pedestrian crossing.  This is an excellent improvement to pedestrian safety, as pedestrians have right of way when crossing these sites at all times.

While we are not aware of any further crossing upgrades, it is important to advise all schools that if a crossing upgrade to a wombat or zebra crossing does occur, then a school crossing supervisor would no longer be allocated to the site.  Crossing supervisors have no authority to stop traffic on a wombat or zebra crossing.

If you can please share the importance of safe driving and adhering to traffic rules in your school newsletter.

Thank you.

Uniform update

As the colder months set in, this year students are permitted to wear their school shorts, skorts or dresses during Winter terms.  The sky blue sports polo and girls pinafore have been discontinued.  However, we encourage all students to dress appropriately for the weather conditions. This means adding extra layers such as a jumper when needed to ensure they stay warm throughout the day.
