Principal Report

A report from Principal Tyson Smith

A Great Start to Term 2!

Despite the shorter days and cooler weather, Term 2 has kicked off with incredible energy and enthusiasm. It’s been wonderful to see so many smiling faces each morning, and there’s a strong sense of excitement and positivity throughout the school.

School Updates

New School Values

As shared in our recent assembly, we’re proud to introduce our updated school values: Respect, Integrity, and Excellence. These values reflect who we are as a school community as we celebrate 100 years of excellence. You can learn more about each value by clicking the tab in this newsletter.

Staff Updates

  • Emma Beckett has commenced her maternity leave, we wish her all the best for this exciting time ahead!
  • Michelle Apollonio will now be spending more time out of the classroom as she leads Disability Inclusion across the school.
  • We’re excited to welcome Sophia Huynh back from maternity leave next week. She will be teaching in 5/6B on Mondays and Tuesdays, taking over Michelle's classroom role on those days.

ANZAC Day

Thank you to everyone who attended our ANZAC Day Service on 24 April. It was a respectful and meaningful event. Special thanks to Richard for playing the bugle, and to Gaby, Isla, and Abby for representing Aberfeldie Primary School at the Keilor East RSL Dawn Service and laying a wreath on our behalf.

School Upgrades

  • The new landscaping works at the Batman Street main gate are progressing well. We look forward to seeing this completed in the coming weeks.
  • Disability access upgrades will commence on 28 May. This project includes a new accessible toilet near the sensory garden, as well as ramps outside the art room and gym. During construction, temporary toilets will be in place and the sensory garden will be closed.
  • Future upgrades in the next 12 months include resurfacing the gym floor and repairing the conference room, which is currently closed due to water damage.

Sausage Sizzle Success

Thank you to all the parent and staff volunteers who supported our Election Day BBQ. We sold nearly 600 sausages and raised close to $2,000 for the school! We’re already looking ahead to the State Election next year, with plans to expand the fundraiser, perhaps even including a bake sale.
