St Patrick's Before & After School Care

Children have been participating in craft activities for Mother’s Day, such as Mother’s Day cards, gift bags, vouchers, flowers, candles, key chains and soap. The observation highlights the children’s creativity and their feelings, emotions and love for their mums. They engaged in meaningful activities for Mother’s Day that allowed them to express their affection through handmade gifts. The children displayed their learning dispositions through creativity, persistence and enthusiasm. They enhanced their motor skills, communication abilities and literacy proficiency.
This week we acted out rolls of being doctors nurses and patients. Children enjoyed using all of the equipment like the stethoscope, needles, blood pressure machine, gloves, bandages, doctors light and thermometer. Children loved having the educators as patients and acted out broken arms on their patients giving them needles in the eye and arm for numbing before bandaging. They also took their temperature and blood pressure and said “oh that’s very bad” as they laughed. Dramatic play enables children to dress, act and be someone else them themselves. It gives them an opportunity to role play different scenarios that they may be afraid of, have viewed in their everyday lives or to help get an understanding of the situation.
