Around the College

Visiting Artist:
Jasmine Crisp
Late last term, our senior art class had the pleasure of welcoming popular Adelaide artist Jasmine Crisp into the classroom.
Jasmine shared her portrait painting expertise, colour exploration and concept creation tips and tricks with students. Students loved witnessing her creative process and were truly grateful to tap into her knowledge of realistic and narrative-driven art.

Joana Poborski and Exchange Opportunities at Endeavour
At the end of last Term, we farewelled our German Exchange student Joana Poborski.
She was here for all of Term 1 and immersed herself into College life through participation in different subject areas and extra-curricular experiences here at the College.
Joana's exchange partner Amee Mann (Year 10) will travel to Germany this November to become the exchange student, staying with Joana’s family and attending her school in Germany.
Joana’s farewell speech on the final day of term mentioned how much she enjoyed her time here in our Endeavour community and how we as a community welcomed her.
Here are a few snippets:
“This experience has been filled with so many “firsts”— some thrilling and others, admittedly, a little intimidating. Adjusting to a new school system brought its own set of challenges, but it also taught me resilience and adaptability. Participating in activities I had never done before—like athletics and swimming carnival—showed me that stepping out of my comfort zone leads to growth and amazing discoveries.”
“What has truly stood out to me, though, is the warmth and inclusivity of this community. The people I got to know have been incredible—from sharing their traditions, including me in their friend group, and making me feel like I’m part of the family here. The sense of belonging I’ve experienced is something I will carry with me long after I leave. I’ve gained friends that will have a place in my heart forever and hopefully visit me in Germany one day.”
“As I reflect on this journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. This experience has not only expanded my horizons but also taught me valuable lessons about the importance of connection, empathy, and embracing diversity. I’ve grown in ways I could never have imagined, and I owe it to this school, the teachers, and my new friends.”
Joana’s words show how an exchange opportunity can build resilience, adaptability, appreciation of another language and culture in students. Exchange students make connections, friendships and enjoy vibrant new experiences of another culture in another country.
Here at Endeavour College, we offer Japanese students the opportunity to apply to go on student exchange to our sister school, Sundai Kofu, in Japan. We encourage Year 9 and 10 students to apply for this opportunity.
These applicants must then study Japanese in Year 11 and 12. Typically Endeavour students travel to Japan over the summer break (approximately within November - January), with the return exchange taking place in May - July, although this is variable.
For German students, we encourage students to participate in the SA German Exchange Program, which is a broader South Australian program involving several schools.
Students apply in Year 9 or 10 and are matched with partners from Bavaria.
Exchange partners arrive from Germany in Term 1 and Australian students head to Germany in November - January.
The program also offers a week for all Australian students to tour Berlin in early January.
Applications for the German Exchange have closed for this year, but applications for the Japanese Exchange will open next semester. Interested students are encouraged to talk to their language teachers about the application process.
I hope to see you applying for an exchange in the future!
