ALTERNATE PROGRAMS NEWSLETTER 14 MAY 2025

We are getting towards the middle of term and staff are starting to think about working through reports and making sure all students have completed assessments to give them the best possible chance to succeed in Semester 1. If your student is struggling with anything, can you please reach out to staff with concerns. We pride ourselves on being able to help wherever possible for your student to succeed.

McKenzie Creek uniform – as we get into the colder months can you please make sure that your child has appropriate uniform for the colder weather. If there is any support needed in arranging uniform, we can assist through the State Schools Relief service. Please reach out to Ben, Darcy or Ebony to work through.

Absences – As the months get colder and illness sets in can I please remind you to follow up any of your child’s absences. We understand that things come up and are committed to making sure we do everything we can to get students to school. Please reach out if your student is absent.

Attitudes to School – in a few weeks we will be working through several surveys to improve our school. If you or your child has the opportunity to give feedback to improve the schooling for those enrolled, please reach out. We are always looking to improve in areas that we are lacking. Feel free to get in contact with Dan Garner – Assistant Principal on 0473 238 253 if you would like to discuss.

Chaplaincy Book Fair – last week saw the continuation of the very successful Chaplaincy Book Fair in the Hall.  A big congratulations to the Chaplaincy Committee, but also to our students from across Blue Group, McKenzie Creek and Senior Groups who assisted with set-up and book organisation throughout the past five months.  You have played a great role in the success of the event.

Thanks,

Dan Garner

Student Absences

With the flu and gastro going around at the moment, there has been a number of students and staff already becoming quite sneezy and unwell. We encourage families to keep children home if they are unwell.

If your student is going to be away from school, please send a SMS to either Darcy (0458304615) or Ebony (0418 956 268).

Connected Circus

Earlier last term, students from McKenzie Creek had participated in a full-day incursion with Vern & Bec from ‘The Connected Circus’. The program aims to build communication, teamwork skills and resilience through learning a series of circus activities and tricks. This Friday 16th May, Vern and Bec will be returning for the day where students will showcase their circus skills to students at the Special School during period 5 and 6. Over the past few weeks students have been working hard to practice a specific skill that they would like to showcase.

Chaplaincy Book Fair

The annual Book Fair occurred last Friday. A huge thank you to Yolande for organising another successful Book Fair. There was a large range of different genres of books with students enjoying looking around and each selecting a book of their own choice.

Key Dates

Friday 16th May – Connected Circus at the Special School

Monday 9th June - King’s Birthday

Orange Group

On Thursday 8th May Orange group students made and decorated chocolate cakes. The students made the cakes from scratch and had a number of options on how to decorate them. One student used fondant and made a Minecraft themed cake, others used icing and lollies. All the cakes looked amazing.

Blue Group

Blue Group students made chicken stir fry from scratch. They gained skills in chopping vegetbles, creating sauce and cooking. They enjoyed the end product.
