Year 12 News

School Sport

It is wonderful to see many Year 12s represent Horsham College at interschool sports. Students are soon to compete in both State Tennis and State Volleyball in Melbourne as well as Black Ranges football competitions. These are wonderful opportunities for students to make lasting memories in their final year of schooling.

Study Habits

A reminder that the human brain does not remember every detail it processes. It is important for students to revisit what they have learned, so that they don’t forget it.

You are encouraged to find ways to apply your knowledge and understanding – learning by doing. An example of this could be verbal recitation (explaining concepts in your own words and out loud to someone else). Another example is the preparation of notes and summaries using some of the memory tools that have been promoted at school. It is essential that scored VCE students also practise exam style questions, so they understand the knowledge and key skills required for their end of year assessments.

Student Leadership

Our student leaders have been busy representing Horsham College at both school and in the wider Horsham community.

Zane Joseph, Ella Hion, Hugo Hopper, Edie Mason and Keely McDermott were all involved in Anzac Day ceremonies at Sawyer Park. Hugo Hopper and Edie Mason then led the commemoration ceremony held at school for Horsham College students and staff with the support of Zac, Ella and other Year 12 leaders.

The Challenges of Term 2

The Year 12 Team acknowledges that Term 2 can often be quite challenging. As the weather gets increasingly colder, students also have an increase in the amount of work and assessments that they are required to complete. It is important for students to not lose sight of their overall goal to achieve the VCE Certificate. Good marks don’t just happen, and students need to maintain a consistent work ethic. Students are encouraged to recognise that resilience and perseverance are skills that they will need to demonstrate throughout their lives.

Students are encouraged to maintain healthy habits throughout Term 2. This includes eating well, having good sleep hygiene and balancing both school and social commitments. A reminder that if your student is struggling, please reach out to the Year 12 Team who can provide additional support.
