Child Safe Information

St Brigid’s College holds the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility. Central to the mission of the school is an absolute commitment to fostering the dignity, self-esteem and integrity of children and young people and providing them with a safe, supportive and enriching environment to develop spiritually, physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

Our Child Safety Policy details and affirms the standards of behaviour expected for members of the St Brigid’s College community.

Child Safe Standard 1

Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.

St Brigid’s College is dedicated to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all students. Central to our commitment is the implementation of the Child Safe Standards is establishing a culturally safe environment. 

In practice and complying with Standard 10, St Brigid’s actively implements these policies for review and improvement:

  • St Brigid’s Safeguarding Children and Young People Code of Conduct Policy
  • St Brigid’s Bullying Prevention (including cybersafety) Policy

  • CECV Commitment to Child Safety

Some evidence of practice and implementation include:

  • Instances of racism are consistently identified and addressed
  • St Brigid’s identifies steps already taken to:
  • support, guide or train staff and volunteers and leaders to understand, respect and value Aboriginal culture and to understand the importance of this to the wellbeing and safety of Aboriginal children
  • We actively support and facilitate participation and inclusion of Aboriginal children and their families 
  • recognise and celebrate Aboriginal peoples, their achievements, communities and cultures 
  • create a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal children within the organisation.
