Assessment and Reporting at SMCM
At SMCM, we value our partnership with families in supporting student learning and celebrating achievements. As we approach the midpoint of the academic year, we are excited to share important information about your child’s progress.
What You Need to Know About Student Reports
What Are Student Progression Reports?
These reports provide a snapshot of your child’s learning growth and progression against the Victorian Curriculum and Religious Education Framework. They offer valuable insights into your child’s academic journey.
When Will You Receive the Reports?
All students will receive a printed copy of their Semester One Progression Report on Monday 21st June.
What Do the Reports Include?
- A progression point for each curriculum area taught this semester in alignment with the Achievement Standards of the Victorian Curriculum.
- Clear communication about your child’s progress since the last report, including whether they are meeting the expected standards for this time of year.
- A five-point scale to measure student achievement:
- “At the standard” indicates that your child is demonstrating learning consistent with expectations for their year level.
- “Above” or “Well above the standard” indicates your child is working beyond typical year-level expectations.
- “Below” or “Well below the standard” indicates that your child is demonstrating that they are on the way to a standard expected of students at this time of the year. However, they have not yet consistently demonstrated learning that is at the standard expected.
What information is used by schools to complete semester reports?
The information in your child’s Progression Report is supported by a range of work samples throughout the semester. This includes post-tests, the work samples, anecdotal notes and a range of other forms of assessment.
Throughout the semester, we also use Online Learning Logs (OLLs) on Seesaw and organise Learning Conversations to share feedback about your child’s learning and progress. In saying that, families are encouraged to communicate with their child’s homegroup teacher to discuss learning progress at any time throughout the year.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in nurturing our students’ growth. If you have any further inquiries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
