Success through God's Wisdom

Success in teamwork at school is where everyone plays an important role - students, teachers and parents/guardians. From a student’s perspective, it may be when they work together on a class task where each person contributes ideas and shows effort towards a common goal. From a parent’s perspective, it may be supporting their child(ren) at home, helping with homework and encouraging their efforts. From a teacher’s point of view, it can be when they recognise the smallest of achievements for a struggling student!

God's wisdom guides us to appreciate teamwork and the support of our families. Success can look like sharing a piece of work that a student is proud of, solving a tough math problem together where everyone contributes their ideas, or creating a beautiful piece of artwork. When parents and teachers join this journey, they bring wisdom and love that strengthen bonds and inspire those around them to do their best. This is God working through others to enable students to showcase their gifts and talents!

With God's wisdom and the support, He places around each of us, every achievement shines, making school a place where success is shared and celebrated by all. No matter how big or small the achievement, let's celebrate together!

Mambourin Swimming Program

Mambourin Campus Year 1 & Year 2 students had the opportunity to participate in a week-long Swimming Program. Students attended this extra-curricular activity at Aquapulse which was aimed at developing their core swimming skills. For those students who currently attend swimming classes, they had the opportunity to enhance their skills, whilst for others, these skills were new to them. We know that many children spend time around the water, particularly during summertime. Therefore, having an understanding of basic water skills is crucial.

Needless to say, apart from learning some valuable skills, students had a lot of fun together displaying excellent self-management, listening and organisational skills. These are all vital skills that promote a sense of independence and help foster student self-reliance.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge and thank all of our parent/guardian helpers who were able to assist on various days. Your time, effort and teamwork skills certainly enabled us to Create Success Together!

Year 2 Cosmic Adventure

This term, Mambourin Year 2 students have embarked on an exciting cosmic adventure, exploring planets and the universe through the ‘How the world works’ unit of inquiry.

Our journey began with a captivating read-aloud session of the Aboriginal dreamtime story, 'The Bunyip and the Stars', sparking our imaginations about the night sky. This was followed by a trip to Scienceworks, further fuelling our curiosity about space.

Through researching, writing stories, and creating works of art the students have developed their knowledge, skills and understandings. They have learned about constellations, the moon, the earth’s rotations, the solar system, day and night and the ways in which humans are connected and interact with the universe and the planets.

Overall, Mambourin Year 2 students have gained a deeper understanding of 'How the world works’ in relation to space and the solar system, from understanding the mechanics of day/night and seasons to exploring the moon and the mysteries of stars and constellations. This exciting unit has not only expanded their knowledge of the cosmos, but also fostered their creativity and storytelling skills, allowed them to practice and develop core ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills, and develop essential IB Learner Profile Attributes.

Year 1 How the World Works Unit of Inquiry: The Weather

Year 1 E and F have explored this unit by learning about the way we describe and feel about the weather, describing weather patterns and learning key vocabulary. They have explored the water cycle and how rain, snow and sleet are formed in the weather cycle (PRE-CIP-I-TA-TION, a tricky word to say!). By asking questions to find out more about thunder, lightning and wind, by observing weather patterns on campus and using technology, they have developed their understanding of the concept of causation. The Mambourin Year 1’s have learned more about the impact the weather has on our lives. This unit has allowed them to make connections about their choices and the weather, the ways the weather affects us as individuals and as a community, and most importantly that we can take action to support the environment and each other.

Mambourin Play Museum

As part of their Unit of Inquiry into Sharing the Planet the Mambourin Preps have been working towards becoming ‘Play Experts’. Exploring how they can share the spaces and resources for play has allowed them to develop social skills and self-management skills. For the past two weeks, the students were supported in exploring ideas for creating their own Play Museum through brainstorming and collecting ideas for the kind of stations they might want to set up. In small groups, they came up with some fantastic ideas around block and box building, Lego stations, home corners and creating artwork. This linked into their Literacy as new vocabulary was explored while they eagerly made lists of the resources needed, designed their stations and explored signage and symbols for creating attractive banners for their spaces. It also linked to Numeracy as they made lists and counted the number of resources they could find in their classrooms.

Next week see them trialling their museum stations as they invite students from other classes to visit their play spaces and we are looking forward to exchanges across all subjects.
