What's Been Happening in PE Term 2
Welcome to our Term 2 Physical Education newsletter! We’ve had an action-packed term filled with exciting activities and remarkable achievements across all grades. Here's a snapshot of what we've been up to:
Junior School: Mastering Fundamental Motor Skills
Our junior students have been working hard on their fundamental motor skills, with a strong focus on perfecting their underarm and overarm throws. The enthusiasm and effort from everyone have been fantastic! The improvements in coordination and technique are evident, and it's great to see our youngest athletes building a solid foundation for future sports.
Senior School: Soccer Skills and Game Sense
In senior school, we've taken a game sense approach to soccer skills, emphasising decision-making on the field. Students have engaged in drills and mini-games that challenge their strategic thinking and teamwork. The growth in their understanding of the game and their ability to make quick, smart decisions has been impressive.
Mini AFL Football Unit
As we wrap up the term, all students are eagerly participating in our mini AFL football unit. This unit combines skills, fitness, and fun, and it's a perfect way to end the term on a high note. The excitement is palpable, and everyone is enjoying learning the ins and outs of AFL.
Extracurricular Highlights
Cross Country Events: Our District and Division Cross Country events were a huge success! A big congratulations to all our participants who represented our school with pride and determination. Your hard work and perseverance truly paid off.
Grade 6 Summer Interschool Sports: Grade 6 students have finished their summer interschool sports matches with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. It’s been wonderful to see them compete and collaborate with peers from other schools.
Winter Gala Day: We’re gearing up for the upcoming Winter Gala Day, where our students will showcase their skills in various winter sports including AFL Football, Soccer, and Netball. This event promises to be a fun and competitive day for everyone involved.
Table Tennis Thursdays: We've introduced table tennis during Thursday break times, and it's quickly become a favourite. Students from grades 3-6 have been enjoying the fast-paced and engaging nature of the game, and it's a great way to stay active during breaks.
Upcoming Athletics Trials: Looking ahead, we are excited about our Athletics Trials for Year 3-6 students. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate their athletic abilities and qualify for future competitions. Keep an eye out for upcoming announcements regarding these trials.
Thank you to all students, parents, and staff for your continuous support and participation. Let’s keep the energy high as we move into the next term!
Stay active and keep having fun!

Term 2 Library News!
We are in full swing with the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge for 2024 and it’s inspiring our students to read more than ever before. The VPRC is opening up new worlds with every book read and expanding our students’ imaginations. The aim of the challenge is to cultivate a lifelong love for reading, and we are thrilled to announce that 25 champion readers have already completed the challenge! A reminder that this is a personal challenge rather than a competition.
Additionally, our students have collectively read 8221 books, with 90 days to go. Our goal is to beat our 2023 record of reading 21584 books. So to all students, choose a book of interest, find a quiet place and let the adventures continue! Remember to add every book you read to your VPRC online lists!!! Keep up the fantastic work.
Each month a student from each class will be awarded with a certificate and a book to acknowledge their efforts. Our May winners were recognised at last Friday’s assembly for taking a keen interest and showing enthusiasm for the commencement of the challenge. Congratulations to the following students:

All are welcome to return and borrow books during these times or to ask for assistance regarding the VPRC if needed. Computers are also available for students to add books to their challenge lists.
As well as focusing on the VPRC we have also been exploring the following:
Prep/Yr 1: Students have explored the rhyming nature of Nursery Rhymes and had the opportunity to act them out and use puppets while reciting them
Yr 2: identifying aspects of books that are appealing and entertaining
Yr 3-6: exploring the characteristics of different genres of our fiction books and the location of these within the library. Students have been exposed to a variety of books within these genres
Happy reading, everyone!

What's Happening in STEM
Preps and Year 1
The Prep and Year 1 students are having fun exploring how to use all the functions within the Seesaw application. They will be able to practise these skills using a stylus in the
coming weeks!
Year 2
In Year 2, students continue to explore digital technology and can identify which components are hardware or software. In the coming weeks, they will experiment with different inputs and outputs that allow us to interact with digital technology.
Year 3 and 4
In Years 3 and 4, students have identified how they can stay safe online. They have discussed rules to follow and how they can communicate respectfully online. Students have also explored the concept of a ‘digital footprint.’
Year 5 and 6
Our Year 5 and 6 students have been discussing how to behave in a shared online environment. Some examples of online collaborative software the students use
are Google Classroom, Google Slides and Padlet. Thanks to Aadit Bahri and Phillip Ven
from 6A who created a ‘word cloud’ about our current topic.
