Literacy Update

The term is in full swing, and it has been my pleasure to begin working with our Little LEAPers on their literacy skills. Together, we are analysing the craft of writing, exploring how authors use language and applying these techniques to our own stories. Students are also learning to discuss plots, settings, and characters in greater depth as they grow as readers and writers.

Last Friday marked the conclusion of Bulldogs Read, where students from across eight Ballarat schools celebrated and it was shared that they had submitted almost 500 book reviews. I am thrilled to share that our Miners Rest students contributed an incredible 158 reviews, the most of any school in the program! A huge thank you to Jess for her leadership of this initiative and her continued support of our readers.

Finally, as many of you know, authors are my rockstars, and I was absolutely overjoyed to meet my writing hero, Matthew Reilly, on Monday. He has an incredible passion for inspiring young readers, especially boys, to discover the joy of reading. Most of his books are suited to readers aged 13 and up and I highly recommend Hover Car Racer or Contest for any reluctant readers in your life looking for an action-packed adventure.
