The Importance of Mentor Groups

Daily Mentor meetings are an important time. It’s a place where students can build on their sense of connectedness and belonging to College and Loreto community.

A strong sense of connectedness, belonging and inclusion is a significant factor for positive mental health and wellbeing. When children and young people feel a sense of belonging, they are more motivated and more successful learners,’ (ACARA, 2023)

Our Mentor Teachers are the key person that your child sees and interacts with every day. Mentor Teachers know their students’ individual stories and needs, build positive relationships and support your child/ren.  Mentor Groups are not only about coaching and support, we love to share students’ good news and to celebrate successes.

Felicitous Life

Felicitous Life Lessons, usually delivered in Mentor Groups during Thursday Period 4, are underpinned by Positive Psychology. Students learn early in their Loreto journey about character strengths and how to utilise these. A growth mindset is promoted; students are given strategies to increase their perseverance and individual wellbeing.

We encourage you to have conversations with your child/ren about what is happening in Felicitous Life Lessons.  For more information about character strengths, and the opportunity to complete the survey and find you own top strengths, we recommend the VIA Institute of Character website https://www.viacharacter.org/
