Rachael Robertson book ‘My Amazing Animal Alphabet Alliteration book’
In Term 3 the grade 3 and 4 students were introduced to Australian author and artist Rachael Robertson who wrote the wonderful book ‘My Amazing Animal Alphabet Alliteration Book’. Inspired by her book each grade has created their own alliteration book.

The first step was to write and design their alliteration sentences using letters that were randomly assigned. Each student brainstormed words beginning with that letter to write an alliteration sentence and designed the picture matching that sentence in their diary. Eg. ‘Quilly the quail felt quite queasy while quickly eating a quiche’.
Using painted papers which they created themselves using stampers, scrapers and gelli plates, the students then set about creating their sentence as a collage. Initially this was quite a challenge for many students as it is much easier to draw a picture than to create a collage. To do this they had to imagine each picture was a series of shapes and glue them down like a puzzle. After the first lesson they started to feel more confident and enjoyed adding the little details in their picture to match their interesting alliteration sentence.
Their letter was added to a corner of the page and they found a space to put their typed-up sentences. The letters and pictures on the front and back cover were also created by the students to give us a hint of the fantastic pictures inside. The collages were photocopied onto glossy paper and bound into a book by Francine for each grade to have in their classroom. Here are some examples of the amazing collages created by the students:

As a little extra incentive, I also informed the students that I would be choosing the collages that I thought best represented that letter from across each grade and ‘publishing’ into a hard cover book. Ella our librarian has added it to the library catalogue and it is available for borrowing. Congratulations to the following students whose collages were chosen to be in the library book:
Kareena, Hongjian, Leila, Stevie, Cindy, Ruby, Ruxin, Harvey, Cynta, Maja, Sepinoud, Charlie, Frankie, Stella, Aurora, Joanne, Hudson, Esther, Lachlan (4T), Charlotte, George (4T) and Kadhirr.
