From Our School Leaders

Sue’s back

It is great to be back at Scoresby Primary School after a month in Europe visiting family. The time away was both refreshing and rewarding, but there is always something special about returning home.

Travelling abroad is always an eye-opening experience and serves as a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in Australia. Our wide-open spaces, clean air, bright sunshine, natural beauty and smaller population all contribute to an enviable lifestyle. Life certainly feels a little more compact in English homes and busy European cities!

A particular highlight of my trip was spending time with my daughter in Germany and reconnecting with our family in England. These moments are always cherished and make the long journey worthwhile.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Nic for capably leading the school during my absence. It is reassuring to know that Scoresby PS continues to thrive under her leadership. I also wish to acknowledge and thank all staff who provided support and continuity throughout this period. Your dedication and teamwork are greatly appreciated.

School fees

We are now full swing into planning for next year, making budgets, sorting employment and dealing with the end of the year expenses. 2025 has seen us only reach 49% of our expected annual school fees.

Our fees at Scoresby PS are low compared to other schools and much of our day-to-day equipment and programs are funded by the yearly school fees.

Letters have been sent to those families who have yet to pay the 2025 fee of $285, and we would like to ask families who owe school fees to pay them as promptly as possible, or pay what you can, as all of the funds coming in helps to cover the costs.

Planning for 2026

Our 2026 Foundation students had their first transition day last week. It was so exciting to have them here with us. There are new faces and families joining us, as well as existing families, with children who are very confident in knowing the school!

We are also beginning to think about our 2026 classes, which might sound early but we take time and effort to make sure these are as balanced as can be in many different ways.

We do accept parent requests - as long as they are on educational grounds, we don’t accept request for teachers.  These requests are overseen by the principal team rather than classroom teachers, as this allows us to ensure all requests are received and treated fairly and equitably. Please forward all requests to Sue Hartley

susan.hartley@education.vic.gov.au directly. Email or written requests are accepted with a cut of date being Friday 7th of November 2025.

This year our staff will take the following into account when forming classes:

  • Student’s learning needs
  • Current teacher recommendations
  • Class balance (number of boys and girls, similar cross section of achievement levels etc.)
  • Parent requests (if able to be fulfilled)
  • A student's sociogram requests ‘Who I work well with?’

Parents will be informed of their child’s class and teacher when the end of year reports come home.

Student Eye Care Program

The school is pleased to announce that the Student Eyecare Program will be running at the school from Wednesday 5th November, 2025 for years 3-6.  An optometrist will be onsite during school hours to provide students with a free comprehensive eye examination that is covered through Medicare Australia. 1 in 6 students have eye conditions that go undetected. This is due to the high level of visual demand on their eyes from books, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Every student will receive a full report about their eye health and a prescription will be provided if glasses are required. The prescription can be taken to any optical store to get the glasses made. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity. To sign up, register online at: https://forms.gle/8AYvFqTSfPamZ19p9
