Year 1 Kangaroos and Cockatoos
The Year 1s finished off the Term 3 with a blast! In Design and Technology, we learned about the basic needs of animals and explored the materials required to create an effective habitat.
Using this knowledge, we designed and built our very own Kimochi Hotels that met the needs of our Kimochi animals. Using clay, we also used our creativity to design and sculpt our Kimochi animals and they looked so real! We had so much fun bringing our ideas to life on the last day of term and were so proud of the teamwork, persistence, and resilience we showed throughout the project.
It was a wonderful way to celebrate all our learning and finish the term on a high!

Caring for the Earth Through Design Thinking
As part of our commitment to the school value Care for the Earth, our students have been busy applying their creativity and problem-solving skills in Design Technology. Working in collaborative groups, they identified real-world environmental challenges within our school and developed innovative solutions to address them.
Through a hands-on process of researching, planning, designing, and building, students created models of their ideas, ranging from recycling bin systems and basketball hoop bins to bridges over garden beds to protect our growing spaces. Each project reflected thoughtful consideration of sustainability and how we can better care for our shared environment.
We are incredibly proud of the students’ initiative, teamwork, and commitment to making St Helena’s a greener place. Their projects are a wonderful example of how young minds can lead the way in environmental stewardship.
