Deputy Principal's Report

Time to Recharge, Reconnect and Rebalance

As we approach the much-anticipated break, it's time to reflect on the incredible journey we've embarked on over the past nine weeks. The achievements of our students, parents and teachers have truly been monumental and each one of us should feel immensely proud.

We've been delighted to hear about the exciting plans our students have shared for the upcoming holidays. Whether your family is jetting off on a vacation or enjoying a staycation, we urge you to take a moment to pause and cherish the time spent together.

For those staying local, Melbourne offers a mountain of free and kid-friendly events. Check out what's on in Melbourne here! Alternatively, it's the perfect opportunity to indulge in some well deserved pajama days to rest and relax!

As we prepare for this break, here are a few tips to help keep the household sane:

Maintain Routines: Consistency is key. Try to keep bedtimes and meal times consistent to support your child's behavior and emotional regulation. Returning to school routines a few days before the start of Term 2 will help smoothen the transition back into school life.

Plan Ahead: Get your kids involved in making a list of activities that they would like to do. Plan for good and bad weather. Schedule downtime and time-out as well as time for one-on-one and family group activities.

Embrace Boredom: Unstructured time and time away from electronic devices is good for young minds and encourages creative thinking.

Get Outdoors: Even if you don't have plans, aim to step outside at least once a day. Take a leisurely walk, ride bikes, or arrange a meet-up with friends at the park. The fresh sea breeze at the beach can also work wonders for the soul.

Stay Connected: Encourage your child to stay in touch with their school friends over the break. Nurturing these friendships outside of the school environment can greatly aid in the transition back to school.

Modify Expectations: The kids might always be hungry (keep a snack box or platter handy in the fridge) and it might feel like the house is always a mess. Maybe try the 'let it go' technique. Embrace the creative side and let them turn the lounge room in to a cubby house! Have a laugh or even join in. Less stress is better for everyone.

Remember, this break is not just about relaxation; it's about reconnecting with loved ones, exploring new adventures and finding balance in our lives. Let's make the most of this time to recharge our spirits, so we can continue to thrive next term.

Wishing you all a joyful and rejuvenating break!

Thanks for all your support,
