PE

We have had an exciting start to the year in Physical Education! The senior school have been learning all about the ‘summer sports’ in line with our interschool sport program! They have attended interschool sport each Friday morning to practise against other schools, in the lead up to the Summer Sport Lightning Premiership. We are super proud of all students who participated and congratulations to the Mixed Volleyball team who are district champions after winning on the day! Also to the girls cricket team, who came runners-up!

The middle school has been learning all about invasion games. We have practised a variety of skills and applied them into some modified games that replicate invasion sports; such as football, soccer, basketball and netball. The juniors have been practising the fundamental movement skills through a variety of social games, and the preps have been learning all about participating in PE at OPPS!

Looking forward to some big events in PE next term, including district cross country, winter sport and House Athletics!

STEM

The students have had a great start to the 2024 school year!

Every student helped create a collaborative art piece - a rainbow serpent - as a symbol in class to remind the students to follow the school values in STEM, specifically kindness.

Afterwards, the classes all had the chance to use a Mangonel, similar to a catapult, to demonstrate their understanding of physics by shooting fluff balls to hit various targets.

To end Term 1 the senior students learnt how to edit images to create characters that they can use in a coding platform called Scratch to code games and animations. Blake in 3/4 A has shared his Scratch game called Teachers Escape - scan the QR code below to play!

We are looking forward to Term 2, which will focus on robotics and chemical reactions.

Have a wonderful holiday!

PA

Performing Arts has had a change of location but has still been a vibrant and enthusiastic place to be. Preps have learnt about pitch, tempo and volume, 1s & 2s have been engaged with learning different rhythm patterns and using graphic notation.

Grade 3/4s have learnt about Funk, Calypso, Hoedown and Boogie Woogie music, whilst 5/6s have analysed Rap, learnt chords, loops and turnarounds.

We are so excited for Term 2, when we will be learning dance and beginning to think about our school show!
