Year 5/6Team
Our Senior School students have made such an amazing start to 2024. The students have settled into their new location in the portables and enjoyed exploring how we can utilise these spaces, with our whiteboard tables and wobble chairs being popular seating choices. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to setting a great example of how to demonstrate our values have been truly commendable.
Everyone has enjoyed getting back into our specialist program and interschool sports. They have shown outstanding sportsmanship weekly interschool sports competitions and the Lightning Premiership competition. Their resilience, teamwork, and respectful conduct on and off the field have been exemplary, making us proud to see them represent our school with such integrity. They also enjoyed being active and making memories at cross country and our colour run.
Students have had lots of fun taking on new and challenging rich tasks during maths. Collaborating with friends and working out tough problems have been a highlight! We have worked on developing our multiplicative thinking and knowledge of angles. Students have also had a great time learning about using strategies for estimating, multiplication and division to explore big problems such as how many Easter could we fit in our classroom.
We have read some awesome texts in English, with The Lost Thing and The Water tower being particular favourites! Students have also enjoyed learning about how we can look after and promote good physical and mental health. They have developed their research skills to discover some amazing new role models including Sam Kerr, Max Gawn and Khalen Young who are encouraging young people to be active and healthy.
In their spirit of leadership and community engagement, the Year 6 cohort have also been selling Zooper Doopers every Friday to raise funds for their Graduation Ceremony and Celebration Day. This initiative not only fosters a sense of responsibility and entrepreneurship but also allows us to celebrate their achievements as they prepare to transition to the next stage of their academic journey. We encourage families to support this endeavour by donating icy poles for them to sell, as every contribution counts toward making their graduation memorable.
