Principal's Address

Mr Greg Miller

Dear Parent and Carers,

As we reach the end of Term 1, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all parents and carers for your steadfast support and trust in the staff of Chevalier College throughout this term. It has been a period marked by various challenges, opportunities for growth, and moments of both celebration and reflection. Yet, amidst it all, your support and commitment to our school community has been a source of strength and encouragement.

In particular, I want to express my gratitude for the way you have nurtured your children, especially in the aftermath of the loss of Violet Chanter and Chkye Tracz. Their departure from this earth has deeply affected our Chev family, but your compassion, empathy and support have made a meaningful difference in helping our students navigate through their grief.

Your trust in our dedication to academic excellence has been invaluable. This was evident in our recent discussions with Leaders of Learning regarding the 2023 HSC results. Moreover, your child’s contribution to fostering a sense of community through various events such as retreats, liturgies, Open Day, the swimming carnival, music concerts, cross country and more, has not gone unnoticed. Two thirds of our students have been involved in extracurricular activities over summer and pre-season winter, and your willingness to support their participation has enabled them to learn, grow, succeed and occasionally fail. As we know, F.A.I.L. stands for First Attempt In Learning.

I also want to acknowledge the role each of you has played in wrestling with the vision of 'Future Facing Chev'. Implementing significant change within a school community as large and diverse as ours is no small feat, yet your discernment and support has been extremely appreciated. Initiatives such as the early commencement of HSC in Year 9 and 10, the delivery of timetabled wellbeing and SIM lessons, and the provision of teacher co-planning time highlight our collective commitment to enhancing the educational experience for our students.

Of course, we recognize that there is always room for improvement. We are committed to refining our approach to 'Future Facing Chev'. Beginning next term, we will implement further adjustments, notably to Flipped Mondays. Senior leaders will convene during the holidays to clarify updated arrangements for Flipped Mondays, aiming for greater clarity, cohesion and an even better learning experience starting in Term 2.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support, partnership and trust in Chevalier College. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence and create an environment where every student can thrive.

We look forward to welcoming your children back to school next term, and in the meantime wish you an enjoyable and restful school holiday.
