From the Deputy Principal

  Mr Anthony Speranza

Dear families,

Ride2School Day

Well done to everyone in the community for the amazing turn up to Ride2School Day. We thank the city of Port Phillip Council once again for assisting us with the coffee cart, smoothie bike, and the P&F for the breakfast. Our Year 6 Leaders were also of great assistance in the morning and organised many activities. We have had a terrific parent response on the survey, this information will greatly assist the Healthy Tracks consultants.

This year we elected to decorate helmets or wear fun accessories for the parade, and we congratulate the winners from each class: Henryk in Prep, Alba in Year 1, Sunday in Year 2, Francesca in Year 3, Mia Q in Year 4, Amy in Year 5/6M and Willem in Year 5/6D.

Students in Years 3 to Year 6 participated in workshops with council members and traffic consultants to identify routes and areas around their homes and our school that they feel safe to ride or walk to school.

We look forward to receiving the report from the consultants later this year, so that we can work together to promote safer and more frequent active travel to school.

House Athletics Day

Last Wednesday we had our House Athletics carnival at Bricker Reserve. It was a fantastic event and we thank Mrs Braun and Mrs Mason for all of their hard work in organising the carnival, all of the parents who assisted on the day, and all of their students who participated on the day. It was a joy to hear and see the children encouraging each other and giving full participation in the many events. Needless to say, there were a few tired students on Wednesday afternoon!

As announced last Friday, the total points and placing of the house teams were as follows:

1st place 428 points - Green

2nd place on 401 points - Red

3rd place on 330 points - Yellow

4th place on 317 Points - Blue

Congratulations to the Green House! Today we will be announcing the winner of the spirit award which is based on how the teachers observe the participation, and encouragement, and sportspersonship of each house member throughout the Athletics and Cross Country days.

Term 1 Learning Expos

The classrooms have been buzzing this week with our parents and family visiting a snapshot of learning from our Term 1 Unit Growing Together. Next term our Inquiry topic will be Environment and the Earth & Space Sciences.

Chess Club Form

If you are interested in re-enrolling or commencing your child into the weekly Chess Club, please see the below form from Chess Ideas. Chess takes place on a Thursday morning at 11:10am in the classroom adjacent to the Zen Zone, and free trials are always welcome.

Zen Zone Wall Mural - Coming in Term 2

We are excited to let everyone know that as part of the landscape plans we have engaged with a local artist to paint two walls in the front entrance gardens and Zen Zone. Our Year 6 Leaders and Prep to Year 5 SRC Leaders have had a sneak peak at the draft designed and have had some input into specific symbols and design that connects the design with the identity of the school community. All students in the school will have the opportunity to contribute to the mural in Term 2.

Dental Van

The annual Dental Van forms have been issued last week. Any families wishing for their children to attend the appointment must return the form ASAP. At this stage we are expecting the van between Monday 22nd and Wednesday 24th April.

School Photos

A reminder that School Photos takes place second day back of Term 2 on Tuesday 16th April. Full school summer uniform is worn on this day and photos can be ordered online from www.advancedlife.com.au using the code VQZ BAX AXP.

Wishing all families and students a wonderful Easter and term holiday!
