JUNIOR SCHOOL UPDATE

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the end of Term 1 at Glenroy College, I am delighted to share with you the incredible achievements and experiences that have defined these past few months. Our students have truly embraced the ethos of being 'ready to learn', demonstrating remarkable dedication and hard work across all areas of their education.

Commitment to Learning

It has been inspiring to see our students' commitment to their studies, with many going above and beyond in their pursuit of knowledge and excellence. This dedication has not only been evident in their academic work but also in their enthusiastic participation in various school activities.

Glenroy Gold Cards and SWPBS Excursions

The Glenroy Gold Card initiative continues to be a cornerstone of our positive behaviour support system, rewarding students who exemplify our school values of achievement, integrity, respect, and teamwork. Recipients of these Gold Cards have enjoyed the SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support) excursions, which serve as both a reward and an incentive for their positive contributions to our school community.

Glenroy College Swimming Carnival

The Glenroy College Swimming Carnival was a highlight of the term, showcasing the spirit, talent, and camaraderie of our students. It was a day filled with joy, competition, and school pride, further strengthening the bonds within our school community.

Upcoming Academic Excellence and SWPBS Excursion

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce an Academic Excellence and SWPBS excursion to Timezone Broadmeadows on the last day of Term 1. This event promises to be a fantastic opportunity for students to celebrate their achievements and contributions to the school community. We encourage all students to continue working hard to receive a Glenroy Gold Card and join us on this exciting outing.

Collaboration with Swinburne University

This term also marked the commencement of the CU program, a pioneering collaboration between Glenroy College and Swinburne University. This initiative offers our students unique opportunities to engage in advanced learning experiences, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

End of Term 1

Please note that the last day of Term 1 is Thursday, 28th March 2024, with school finishing at lunchtime, 12.18 pm. This early finish allows our staff to prepare for the term ahead and ensures a smooth transition into the holiday period.

A Heartfelt Thank You

As we reflect on the term, I would like to extend a massive thank you to our students, parents, guardians, and staff for their hard work, support, and dedication. It is your commitment that makes Glenroy College a vibrant and nurturing environment for our students to learn and grow.

Together, we have made Term 1 a success, and I look forward to the continued achievements and experiences that the rest of the year will bring. Thank you for your ongoing support, and here's to a fantastic Term 2 at Glenroy College!

Warm regards,

Mr. Lok

NAPLAN

During Week 7, our Year 7 and 9 students each completed four NAPLAN tests. Every student in Australia completes these tests in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9. They provide a snapshot of students’ skills in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (grammar and spelling), and Numeracy (Maths).

We were so impressed by our students’ concentration and effort throughout each test. They remained focused throughout each session, showing off their learning skills as well as their perseverance.

Results should be available in Term 2, and will be shared with students and families as soon as they are available. Teaching staff will use the information to continue to tailor the teaching and learning program for each student, and to determine what additional supports or extension opportunities may be appropriate.

We look forward to celebrating our students’ learning growth when the results are released!
