Updated Expected Behaviour Matrix

As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a safe, respectful and positive learning environment for all students, we are pleased to share an update to our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Supports (SWPBS) expected behaviour matrix.

This revised matrix has been developed by our SWPBS Team and is designed to provide clearer, more consistent expectations for students across all areas of the school. It reflects our core school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Kindness, and helps ensure that these values are explicitly taught, modelled, and reinforced in every part of the school day.

What has Changed?

Previously, our expectations were organised into broad categories such as Inside, Outside, and Always. While these provided a strong foundation, we have refined and expanded them to better reflect the full range of school settings and learning experiences students engage in each day.

The updated matrix now includes clear expectations for:

Learning Environments (classrooms and specialist spaces)
Outside Areas (playgrounds and school grounds)
Transitions and Movement Around the School
Toilets
Assemblies
Online and Digital Spaces
Always Expectations (across all settings)

Why the Change?

The updated structure provides:

Clearer and more explicit expectations for students in specific settings
Consistent language used by all staff across the school
Stronger support for students to understand what positive behaviour looks like in different contexts
A continued focus on teaching, not just expecting, positive behaviour

Our School Values in Action

Across all settings, students are explicitly taught to demonstrate:

Respect

Listening to others
Caring for people, spaces, and resources
Using kind and appropriate language

Responsibility

Following instructions and routines
Making safe and thoughtful choices
Taking ownership of learning and behaviour

Including others
Using supportive and encouraging actions
Showing empathy and care in interactions

Supporting Students at School and Home

We encourage families to take some time to discuss these expectations with their child. Reinforcing consistent language between home and school helps students better understand and apply these behaviours in real situations.

The updated matrix will be displayed in classrooms and shared with students throughout the remainder of the term as part of explicit teaching and ongoing SWPBS lessons.
