Hello from Grade 3/4 Skye

Literacy

This term in Literacy, our students have been exploring fables and fairytales. We have been learning about what makes these text types unique and identifying the features that help make stories engaging and memorable. Students explored characters, settings, problems, solutions and the lessons or messages that stories can teach us. We also discussed the different ways authors make stories interesting for readers through language, events and imagination.

As part of our learning, we participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime 2026. Students listened to and read Luna Roo and Her First Match as Captain for the FC Outback Soccer Team. This provided opportunities for discussion, comprehension activities, making predictions and sharing ideas about the story and its characters as well as retelling the story to one another.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been developing their addition strategies through a variety of hands-on and engaging activities. We have explored doubles, near doubles, number lines and mathematical games to strengthen fluency and confidence when solving problems. Students have been encouraged to explain their thinking and apply different strategies to reach solutions.

We have also been investigating symmetry, identifying lines of symmetry and exploring what symmetrical shapes and designs look like in everyday objects and mathematical patterns.

Gymnastics

Over the past four weeks, students have thoroughly enjoyed participating in our Monday Gymnastics sessions. Throughout the program, students have developed confidence, coordination and movement skills while challenging themselves through a range of activities and equipment. It has been wonderful to see students encouraging one another, building resilience and celebrating achievements together.
