Upper Unit Learning This TermIt’s been a fantastic start to the term in the Upper Unit, with students diving into a wide range of engaging learning experiences. From deepening their understanding of maths and literacy to exploring different countries through our MAPPEN program, students are working hard, building confidence, and strengthening their collaboration skills. Here’s a snapshot of what we will be up to for the rest of this term:Literacy

  • Developing fluency and comprehension through literature circles and mentor texts
  • Focused writing lessons on narrative and informative texts
  • Weekly spelling patterns (e.g. /ar/, /ure/, /tion/)
  • Grammar skills: apostrophes, sentence expansion, clauses

Mathematics

  • Mastering the four operations using written strategies
  • Order of operations with brackets and mixed operations
  • Working with fractions and decimals (e.g. number lines, conversions)
  • Data representation using graphs and dot plots
  • Exploring chance and probability through hands-on experiments

MAPPEN – Think Global, Act Local

  • Students working in pairs to research a country
  • Creating brochures, posters, blog posts, weather reports, and maps
  • Developing speaking and teamwork skills using prepared cue cards
  • Focus areas: sustainability, extreme weather, food, culture, travel routes
  • Travel Expo at the end of term to showcase their work

Respectful Relationships

  • Weekly lessons on emotional awareness and respectful communication
  • Building social skills and working collaboratively across activities
