Library News!

Have you met our Library Captains? This year we have 3 brilliant Year 6 students who have stepped up to the Library Captaincy role; Matilda, Ivy and Orlando. This term they have already been brainstorming some creative ideas for the Library!

Our Library Captains came up with the Best Borrowers award that acknowledges the students from each area of the school who have borrowed the most books this term! Thank you to our Library Captains for putting together the prizes and for confidently presenting these awards at assembly!

A huge congratulations to our BEST BORROWERS for Term 1!

Science

Hello all!

The end of term has arrived. It’s been said before, but it’s worth repeating: wow, that has gone fast! Congratulations to our spectacular learners who have put effort into observing the world around them through their senses. It was wonderful to see students excitedly use magnifying glasses to peer closely at mini beasts looking for similarities and differences between them. It was great to hear them applying their understanding of habitats and environments when identifying features and trying to predict the types offood the bugs might eat based on the shapes of their mouths. In Week 9, the 3/4 s were particularly lucky to be visited by Ian with his Renewable Energies Van. The students built upon their understanding of electrical energy and energy transfer through fun activities. They investigated wind turbines, water turbines, solar energy and more. They were excited to participate in demonstrations.

Thank you to Clean Energy Nillumbik for providing this opportunity. Clean Energy Nillumbik have linked local repairers who will help with identifying sustainable options when it is time to replace your hot water system. This is the URL: https:// www.cleanenergynillumbik.org.au/hot-water-hub

Students went home with a QR code sticker that could be placed near the hotwater system as a convenient reminder. Congratulations again to all of our science students. It has been wonderful to hear that families are doing a lot of science activities at home too. Enjoy exploring over the holidays.

Visual Arts – Junior

Visual Arts – Senior

It’s been a wonderful first term in the Senior Visual Arts room!

All students have been studying colours and how colours can work together in art and design. The year 3&4 students have finished their colour wheel lions which look incredible on the artroom walls. They did such a fantastic job mixing all their colours from just the three primary colours.

The year 5&6 students worked on creating simple landscapes using only 3 lines and 4 colours. They had to mix their colours from a basic pallet of red, blue, yellow, black and white. They worked on their brush skills when painting and thoughtfully mixed their colours to match their chosen colour scheme. They look so amazing!

Some year 5&6 students also had a go at creating an ‘old school’ instagram wall by cutting pictures out of magazines in their chosen colour scheme.

Next term we will be switching things up and starting our textiles unit. I can’t wait for the students to have a go at making their own felt creations.

Have a happy Easter break.

Performing Arts - Junior

Foundation

A huge congratulations to all our students in Prep Performing Arts. It has been so lovely to watch your child/children grow in confidence and ability during Term 1, their first term at primary school. Students have enjoyed learning lots of new songs, a highlight being "Mr. Sun" and "Five Little Speckled Frogs". I’m sure all will agree that their end of term celebration was a wonderful experience, for both the students and their parents/caregivers. The Prep teachers reported that the kids were so engaged, sang proudly and enjoyed doing the actions. These young performers' dedication and hard work truly shone through! What a wonderful achievement!

Some other achievements this term are:·

  • I can sing 3 notes accurately.·
  • I can copy a rhythm on an untuned instrument and play a beat accurately. ·
  • I can play percussion while singing a song.

Well-done Preps! I am looking forward to another wonderful term, in Term 2!

Level 1&2

Shout Out to all our Performance Club Members. Your dedication to ‘turning up’ to our Lunch Time Performance Club is to be commended, hence receiving the Jnr Performing Arts award at our Wk 10 Monday Assembly. There are over 70 students who have made this commitment- you should all be very proud of yourselves!

All of Level 1 & 2 are looking forward to our performance début of the "5 Fat Frogs" body percussion song at our end of term Friday Assembly. Performance Club members will be on stage while the rest of 1/2 will be performing from their assembly spots. This performance show cases their learnings about singing as a group, creating a body percussion beat, adding actions to the words of the song and playing percussion instruments on the beat. All of the students have been incredibly enthusiastic and dedicated during class and our cohort rehearsals, and we are all incredibly excited to share their performance with the school and our parent community.

Some of our achievements this term are: ·

  • I can move in response to different music·
  • I can sing in tune with my class ·
  • I can keep the beat to a song ·
  • I can create a body percussion sequence to a song.·

I can perform our body percussion sequence and sing with my group

Well-done Level 1/2! Can’t wait to work with you all again in Term 2!

Performing Arts - Senior Year 3-6

It’s been a wonderful first term in the Senior Performing Arts room!

The Grade 5&6 Music Presentations will be finishing up this last week of term. There has been such a high calibre of research done and fantastic music samples showcased and presented. Students have learnt so much about many different musical cultures from around the world and it’s been wonderful to see the students’ oral presentation skills. Well done to all the senior students.

The Grade 3&4’s have all now performed and presented their partner musical compositions on percussion instruments. They all should be very proud, they all did such a wonderful job. We have continued to work on our rhythm notation skills as a whole class to finish out our music topic for this term.

Our Term 2 topic will be dance for both 3&4’s and 5&6’s, with the 5&6’s focus being on various choreographic devices and the middle school’s will be on dance elements. Each grade will be learning a dance routine also throughout the term which I am very excited for!

The four Performing Arts captains will also be running a Dance Club during Term 2 for Grades 3 and 4 that have expressed their interest in partaking. These will be held first half of Thursday lunchtimes, with captains Tiana and Carina taking the Grade 4’s and captains Esther and Hannie taking the Grade 3’s. The four captains are in charge of choosing the music and coming up with the choreography themselves to then teach their group of students. They’re very excited to be leading Dance Club and I’m super proud of their initiative and commitment.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter holiday break and looking forward to all the wonderful things to come in Term 2 from the Performing Arts room!
