Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Dear 5/6 Parents,

And that’s a wrap! It’s hard to believe we’re almost at the end of Term 1. The 5/6 teaching team has been incredibly impressed with how well our Year 5 and 6 cohorts have settled in, made new friends, and supported one another this term.

The Year 5s and 6s had a fantastic time taking part in the Cross Country event in Week 9. Students enjoyed a lovely day running through the leafy trees along the creek.

We also held our annual Walkathon this week, and we were amazed by the creativity and effort that went into their banner. It was wonderful to see classes coming together, sharing ideas, and celebrating this special event as a team.

Year 5 Camp Information

A packing list for the Year 5 camp was sent home on Thursday in Week 9. This comprehensive list outlines everything students will need for their stay at Forest Edge Camp. Please note that bathers are not required, as swimming activities are only part of the Term 1 camp.

If you haven’t yet returned your medical forms or medication records, please do so as soon as possible. Year 5 camp takes place in Week 2 of next term, and we need to finalise documentation before Term 2 starts.

This Week in Year 5/6

English:

In structured literacy, we have finished reading our class novel War Horse. The students loved the book, even though it was quite emotional at times. They were eager to find out what happened to Joey and Albert!

Additionally, students have been busy finalising and publishing their narratives. It has been fantastic to see them apply what they have learnt throughout the term to create engaging and imaginative stories.

Maths:

Students have been enthusiastically exploring the world of angles. They have learnt to identify, estimate, and measure angles, examined angles in triangles and quadrilaterals, and even put on their artist hats to explore angles in art. Mathletics tasks continue to be assigned for follow-up practice.

Inquiry:

As the term comes to a close, students have been putting the final touches on their class projects about Australian refugees and presenting their findings. It has been inspiring to see our 5/6 students show such empathy and understanding while exploring how migration has impacted people in both their own lives and the wider community.
