Positive Behaviour focus

This term our focus for our behaviour teaching is:

‘We solve problems and conflict at playtimes.’

During play times our students need to solve a range of play and social situations eg. Taking turns in a game, how to respond if someone doesn’t want to play with you, following the rules and playing fairly in a game etc. These are important social skills that are transferrable to situations outside of school.

Staff are teaching and discussing this focus in class as well as before playtime and during eating time after play breaks.

Our goal is for our students to have a repertoire of strategies to attempt to solve the problem whilst also showing our High Behaviour expectations of We are Respectful and We are Inclusive and using our school values of Friendliness, Tolerance, Compassion, Resilience and

Students are acknowledged in the yard and class when they communicate how they have solved a play problem in a positive way and earn House Points for their team.

When we achieve our goal of ‘solving problems and conflict at playtimes’ as evidenced by our ongoing data collection, students will suggest and vote on a whole school celebration of recognition. We look forward to this celebration and will let families know what is decided and when it will occur!

Here are a couple of photos which show the teaching and discussion in classes.
