Reformation Day: A Legacy of Faith and Thoughtfulness

On 31 October, we join with communities worldwide to observe Reformation Day, commemorating a pivotal moment in our Lutheran history. It was on this day in 1517 that Martin Luther posted his Ninety-Five Theses on the church door in Wittenberg, courageously challenging certain church practices. This single act of conviction ignited the Protestant Reformation, transforming the landscape of faith and setting a course for spiritual renewal and a commitment to truth.

Reformation Day reminds us of the values the Reformation stood for—faith, grace, and scripture. At Good News Lutheran College, we reflect on these principles, which encourage us to align our lives with Christ’s teachings, grow personally and spiritually, and foster a community grounded in love, compassion, and truth. These are values that guide us in both our learning and our interactions with one another.  Martin Luther also reminded us of the important purpose of our schools when he wrote; "When schools flourish, all flourishes.” This is why at GNLC we take our roles very seriously as a flourishing future depends on what we do!

Martin Luther valued education and the importance of being deep thinkers who pursue knowledge and reflect meaningfully. As we honour this Reformation Day, may it encourage us to embrace lifelong learning, strengthen our commitment to personal growth, and deepen our faith journey. May we be inspired to pursue truth, encourage thoughtful reflection, and walk in the light of Christ together.

As Martin Luther’s convictions were a reflection of his belief that our community is central to how we serve and accept each other, it is imperative that we acknowledge all things that are important to the Good News Community. We wish our 2024 Year 12s well as they complete their final exams, and we extend our best wishes to all those celebrating Diwali this weekend.
