Swimming - Part 1 with Prep B

Preps have completed their first 4 days of swimming and we must say, they have all been amazing. From their enthusiasm, their participation and their independence with getting ready, it has been wonderful to see our students be part of such an important program.

We look forward to another week as the students continue to develop thier swimming skills, their confidence and knowledge about water safety.

Here's what our Preps have to say-

"I love it because I can swim and dive in the deep end" - By Leevi

"We have fun in the water" - By Elliot

"My swimming teacher is nice to me" by Beatrix

" It's really fun becuase we get to do diving" - Mirwais

"I love swimming because I get to go underwater" - Gliese

" I like it because  we are learning to swim" - By Albie

" I like it how we can wear goggles and they help me see underwater" - by Basil

"We get to go in the water and play fun games" - By Jax

Reading

This week, the Preps have continued to look at imaginative texts as a focus.

The students are showing us that they understand what the 'purpose' of these texts are, 'predict' what will happen,  'retell' the important parts of these stories and show their 'understanding' by answering questions. We have been so impressed with how far the students have come with their reading abilities and are super proud. They enjoy the guided reading groups and sharing their reading capabilities with the class. Well done!

Please continue with the nightly reading!

Writing

We have continued to focus on 'narrative' story writing this term. The students are thoroughly enjoying planning and writing their narratives. They are coming up with amazing story lines, interesting characters and their writing is impressive also.

We are getting better at writing sentences with spaces, capital letters and full stops, as well as including high frequency words and making great attempts at other words.

Well done to all the preps and keep those stories coming!

Maths

Last week the our focus in Maths was location and using positional words. The students had fun revisitiing this topic, completing activities and playing games to continue developing their understanding. This week we have been looking at 'sharing into equal groups' (division). What has really helped our prep students to understand these concpets is using 'concrete materials' and 'pictures'. The students were challenged when they had to share 'equal' amounts of pizza toppings on pizza pieces. They did really well and enjoyed working in groups.
