Guatemalan Worry Dolls, or muñecas quitapenas, are tiny, hand-made dolls rooted in Mayan tradition, crafted to help relieve worries these dolls are typically made from bits of wood, wire, and brightly coloured fabric, reflecting traditional Mayan clothing.
According to legend, when someone is troubled or anxious, they can tell their worries to these dolls. At bedtime, the dolls are placed under the person’s pillow. While the person sleeps, the dolls “take on” their worries, symbolically relieving them of their troubles. By morning, it’s believed the worries will be lifted or diminished. A work in progress.

Grade 3 / 4 Crazy Hair pictures. with straws, food dye and a lot of hot air students blew out the hair on their drawings
Grade 3 / 4 students used wire and aluminium to make their human shape.
Then they covered the body using aluminium foil making sure that there was no wire to be seen. On paper they placed their 3D body into different positions and drew the shadow behind on the paper.
Grade 3 / 4's also had their turn with clay. Coil clay pottery is a traditional hand-building technique where clay is rolled into long, snake-like coils and stacked in layers to form vessels or sculptures. This method dates back thousands of years, with ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians and Native Americans using it to create functional and decorative pottery.
Grade 5/ 6's version of Edvard Munch's The Scream (1893 which is one of the most iconic works of modern art, symbolizing existential anxiety and human emotion. The painting depicts a distorted figure standing on a bridge, clutching its face in a moment of intense fear or despair, as swirling, vibrant colours in the sky and landscape create a sense of chaos.
In Grade 5/6 canvas painting, students explore different ways to use line, colour, and brushstrokes. They experiment with both warm and cool colours, contrasting these shades to create depth and mood. Bold lines add structure, while varied brushstrokes bring energy and texture. This hands-on approach encourages creativity and lets students see how colors and lines can express emotions or ideas.
