Year One - Spotlight on Learning

Jerusalem Community

Dear Families,

Week 4

Welcome back to Mrs. Perera, our dedicated Community Leader and 1A teacher! We are thrilled to have her back supporting our students and school community.

As we wrap up Week 4, our students have settled into their routines and are becoming more confident in following instructions. It has been wonderful to see them growing in independence and engagement with their learning.

This week, we also held a practice invacuation drill. Students responded exceptionally well, quickly and calmly returning to their classrooms as part of the emergency procedure. Their cooperation and understanding of safety protocols were impressive.

A huge thank you to all the families who attended our Open Afternoon! It was fantastic to see so many parents join us to learn more about the year ahead. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to a great term together.

Religious Education focus:

Our focus this week was on the importance of prayer. Students joined together to write class prayers that will be used in daily.

English focus:

We read the book Silly Birds by Gregg Dreise. Students examined words like soar, bragged, and polluted. The use of common verbs like playing and running and eating were used in sentences along with the conjunction - but.

Mathematics focus:

We looked at counting and showing what number from 1-99 might look like. The use of bundling and tens frames gave students a clear understanding of the best way to show larger numbers.

SEL:

The Amygdala has been the focus of this week. This area of the brain controls emotions and feelings.

History: We examined the passing of time through the year. We learnt about the seasons, the months of the year, changes in weather, and special events that occur during the year.

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education focus: We will be learning more about Parables.

English focus:We will be reading the book The Family Tree.

Mathematics focus: We are working on our counting, comparing and adding skills.

SEL: The focus will be all about kindness.

History: We will be examining our own family tree.

AUSLAN Focus: We will be learning common signs to use in the classroom.
