Year Six - Spotlight on Learning
Bethlehem Community
Dear Families,
A big thank you to everyone who attended our Family Open Night. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Bethlehem teaching staff to connect with many of our students' families and discuss the upcoming school year.
A friendly reminder that Athletics Day will be held on Monday, February 24th. Students are encouraged to wear their house colors. If all families could also complete the permission form and dietary requirements form for camp that would be greatly appreciated.
Religious Education Focus
Students will deepen their understanding about the significance of a Jubilee year to the Church, as well as begin to explore Lent, a season of reflection and renewal.
English Focus
Reading: We will continue to read our historical fiction novel Rivet Boy, which tells the story of a 12-year-old in Victorian-era Scotland working on the construction of the Forth Bridge.
Writing: Students will solidify their understanding of the structure of a persuasive piece and the language devices necessary to effectively persuade their audience.
Mathematics Focus
Students will revise the steps required for using the four operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division - to solve equations. They will also apply these understanding to solve expressions using calculators, spreadsheets and worded problems.
Integrated Studies Focus
We will continue to learn about the founding and development of Australian colonies over the past three centuries. Students will learn about the resistance of Aboriginal Australian resistance to British colonization and how different forms of resistance shaped Australia's history.
Social & Emotional Learning Focus
Studentswill continue to focus will on emotional literacy - recognising emotions and identifying appropriate ways to respond to the emotions of others. They will also look at how they categorise emotions in positive, negative, mixed and intense emotions.
Auslan Focus
In Auslan, students will revise the signs related to greetings and asking questions before completing their assessment on Unit 1.
