Get Set and Connect at Greenhills!  

We’re thrilled to kick off the 2025 school year with Get Set and Connect, our carefully designed start-up program that ensures every student has a positive and inclusive beginning at Greenhills. This program, grounded in research-backed strategies, supports all students in feeling safe, happy, and ready to learn.

While Get Set and Connect looks different across year levels, the core focus remains the same: fostering strong relationships, creating a supportive learning environment, and building a classroom culture where every student thrives. We encourage you to talk with your child about their experiences settling into the new school year.

Get Set & Connect Key Focus Areas:

Building Strong Relationships: Our teachers have been dedicated to getting to know each student, ensuring they feel valued and supported. Daily greetings, one-on-one check-ins, and open communication help establish trust and connection. When students feel seen and valued, they are more engaged, motivated, and ready to learn.

Encouraging Friendships & Collaboration: A new year and a new classroom can feel overwhelming. Through structured activities, students build friendships, develop social skills, and strengthen their sense of belonging. A strong sense of belonging helps every child feel more confident and connected in the classroom.

Setting Clear Expectations:  Clear expectations create a structured and predictable environment where students feel secure and ready to learn. By co-constructing classroom rules and routines, we help students understand what is expected of them, promote positive behaviour, and foster a sense of responsibility. This consistency allows every student to thrive in a respectful, supportive, and engaged learning community.

Celebrating Inclusion:  At Greenhills, we celebrate diversity and ensure every student feels valued and included. Get Set and Connect fosters an environment where all students, regardless of background or ability, have equal opportunities to participate, learn, and thrive. We actively promote kindness, empathy, and understanding, creating a school culture where differences are embraced and everyone belongs.

Building Confidence & Student Agency: This year, we are deepening our focus on student agency by introducing our High Impact Learner Agency Traits (HILATs). These traits define the essential skills students need to be effective, independent learners. By fostering student agency, we empower learners to take ownership of their education, set meaningful goals, and confidently navigate their learning journey.

Promoting Resilience & Wellbeing: Developing resilience helps students navigate challenges with confidence. Through the Zones of Regulation, we equip students with strategies to recognise and manage their emotions, build self-regulation skills, and develop a positive mindset. Our focus on wellbeing ensures that every child feels supported, capable, and ready to learn.
