Art of Revolution Excursion

Yayoi Kusama Exhibition

On Friday 21st February, our Year 10 Art of Revolution class visited the Yayoi

Kusama exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. The moment we stepped in, we were surrounded by Kusama’s signature polka dots and mirrored installations, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere.

One of the highlights was the Infinity Mirror Room, where lights flickered endlessly in a never-ending reflection. Walking through it felt surreal—like being lost in a galaxy. Another standout was the giant pumpkin sculptures, each covered in Kusama’s iconic dot patterns. The sheer scale and repetition in her work made it feel immersive and hypnotic.

Throughout the visit, we learned about Kusama’s life, including how her art explores themes of obsession, mental health, and identity. Some pieces felt playful, while others carried a deeper emotional weight.

By the end of the trip, we left inspired (and with plenty of polka-dot selfies)!
