Senior Interschool Tennis

Northcote High School went out to Oak Park Tennis club for Senior Tennis last week going up against Thornbury High School, St Johns College and Lalor Secondary College. Northcote had both a Senior Girls and Boys teams enter and represented the school fantastically, showing excellent sportspersonship and having a great day out. The Northcote High School team had a lot of fun and played some great tennis on the day. In particular the Northcote High students were excellent in helping umpire the games, scorekeeping and helping out other schools with any questions they had. The Senior girls put in a great effort, winning 1 out of 2 matches played. The Senior Boys team managed to win against each school, resulting in them winning the round robin and qualifying for the Regional Tennis Event on March 20th. Great job everyone!

NHS Volleyball Development Program

It has been great to see so many returning students to the NHS Volleyball program this year, and a huge number of new players too!

With all training and tournaments starting in Term 2, it is not too late to join the program! Teams are filling up quickly, and we would love any students who are interested in joining to express their interest ASAP!

For anyone who has not already received a sign-up form, please hand them in ASAP, as we need this information to start finalising our training schedule for Term 2.

Please see Mr Dalla in the PE office for more information and sign-up forms, or email lda@nhs.vic.edu.au

Yr 9/10 Volleyball

We had intermediate teams represent the school at divisional volleyball.

Our girls had a great day, with our B-Team winning all their games, and A-Team winning several nail-biters, including the grand final! They will have the opportunity to represent the school in the regional round at the end of this term!

Our boys/mixed team had a great day as well, with the B-team winning most of their games and A-team making the grand final. With most of our players in Year 9, we were undersized but made up the difference by using great skill to get the wins. Unfortunately, the final was tough, with our team losing in straight sets.

It was a fantastic day for all involved, and we are looking forward to seeing how far our intermediate girls can go!

Yr 8 Baseball

On Monday the 24th of February, a year 8 boys baseball team played a tough game against Preston High School at the Mill Park Diamond. The boys played really well, making fast and efficient runs, with a few great bats! Fantastic pitching by Oskar and catching by Taavi, alongside an awesome jumping catch by Flynn, our key players on the day. They worked really hard, all the way to the end, but unfortunately, we lost to some great pitching from Preston which led to us falling behind in the final inning, losing by one run. We look forward to playing them again next year!

Yr 9-10 Baseball

The sun hung low over the field as the final inning of the game between Northcote High and Preston High reached its nail-biting climax. The score was tied, and Malachi, drenched in sweat, threw his last desperate pitch. The crack of the bat echoed through the stadium—Preston’s star hitter sent the ball soaring into the outfield. The crowd held it's breath as Anton sprinted, fingers brushing the ball just inches from a potential catch. But it slipped through his glove, falling to the grass. With the winning run racing across home plate, Preston erupted in ecstatic celebration. On the other side, Northcote’s players stood frozen, their hearts shattered by the one-run defeat, the crushing reality settling in that they had come so close, only to fall short in the most gut-wrenching way.

Yr 9/10 Cricket

On a very hot Tuesday, our Year 9/10 boys cricket team took on the field for the regional competition. The team showed great skill in their 3 matches, securing one strong win but falling short in two closely contested games. It was great to hear from the umpires that the boys were very encouraging not only to each other, but to the other schools on the field.

Despite the mixed results, the year 9/10 boys showed excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and some solid batting performances.

Well done to a great day out!

Senior Cricket

The senior cricket team had a great day out. With a mix of year 11 and 12 students, we were a very strong bowling side on the day. With a great team spirit and led by our captain Finbar Kennedy, we had two comfortable wins to start the day. On the final game of the day against Preston it came down to who ever won out of these two teams to decide who would progress to the next round of the competition. With a strong first innings with our team bowling, we were chasing 73 to win. On the last bowl of the game, scores where tied. In true Northcote dramatic finish, it took the last run which was a whisker away from being a run out, sealed by Joel Stanford to win us the game. The boys were ecstatic, and it was a great way to finish the day.
