Before and After School Safety

Keeping children and families safe is a high priority here at Good Shepherd and that extends beyond the classroom.  We ask that you take the time to read through this page to understand how we need your support as parents and caregivers.

Pedestrian Crossing

Please remember that 10km/h is the speed limit for our carpark and drive through area.

When unmonitored – cars are to give way to pedestrians – however if you are a pedestrian, please check carefully before stepping into the lanes of traffic.

When monitored – please follow the directions of staff and the lollypop sign.  They are there to keep pedestrians safe and to support the smoothest flow of traffic as possible.

Car Park / Kiss and Drop

There is one lane of traffic through the kiss and drop zone (left hand side, nearest to the verandah) and one lane parking and through traffic (right hand side). Please be courteous and patient in your use of this space.

There are just a few reminders...

  • Students may get out of or into cars that are stationary anywhere between the Yellow and Red diamonds.
  • Please move as far as practically forward so that it is safe for you to pull out of the kiss and drop lane.
  • Please do not get out of your car to assist children, if using 'kiss and drop' they need to be able to get into or out of the car themselves and strap themselves in.
  • If your child sits in the K – Z space, please continue forward as far as safely possible to maximise space and allow more cars to be collecting students at the same time.
  • Students have been reminded of their responsibility to be ready to get into the car, and to predict and listen to teacher guidance when looking to where they will be getting into the car. Students must only be entering and exiting vehicles on the verandah side of the car.

Playground supervision

Before school: Students and families may access the school grounds starting at 8:15 am. Please refrain from arriving earlier unless your child is enrolled in the Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) program.  Staff are on duty from 8:15am both on the middle and junior primary play areas.

After school: The Hard Play and Middle Primary Playground areas are reserved exclusively for OSHC participants.

If you are supervising siblings of students in after-school sports activities, please ensure you are providing supervision on the oval or Junior Primary playground.  Families are encouraged to utilise the oval and Junior Primary playground while providing adult supervision until 4:15pm.

All children should be waiting at kiss and drop where staff are on duty until 3:30pm.

Thank you for following our guidelines to ensure the safety of all children before and after school, and to support the efficient flow of traffic during these busy times.
